Palin choice is similiar to the Ferraro choice by Mondale.

Quayle was the young blood to counter-act the old candidate.
Quayle was meant to inspire the younger voters.

The only thing is Bush I was a much stronger candidate than McCain. So, Bush I was able to overcome the negatives of Quayle. McCain doesn't have that advantage.
