Wants to "Convince the rest of the nation to open ANWR"

Quotes

SMALL BUSINESS – “As Mayor and CEOof the booming city of Wasilla, my team invited investment and encouraged business growth by eliminating small business inventory taxes, eliminated personal property taxes, reduced real property tax mill levies every year I was in office, reduced fees, and built the infrastructure our businesses needed to grow and prosper.”

FREE MARKET – “I am a conservative Republican, a firm believer in free market capitalism. A free market system allows all parties to compete, which ensures the best and most competitive project emerges, and ensures a fair, democratic process.”

HEALTH CARE – “I support flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care that is needed, and is proven to be good for the consumer, which will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies. I also support patients in their rightful demands to have access to full medical billing information.”

SOCIAL ISSUES – “I am pro-life and I believe that marriage should only be between and man and a woman.”

ENVIRONMENT – “Regimes to protect Stellar Sea Lions must be based on sound science not personal agendas…I will fight in every way possible to make sure that our fishing communities are protected from the personal agendas of federal fishery managers”

“I believe in protecting Alaska's environment through fair enforcement of our environmental laws. Having a clean record on environmental regulation is critical to getting ANWR open and maintaining our fisheries mining, timber, and tourism industries.”

bears from the endangered species list. This woman supports (created a $400,000 fun to fight ban on aerial hunting) 'big' hunters and could care less about wildlife in Alaska.

36. Her op-ed contribution in the NYT Jan/08
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/05/opinion/05palin.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

snip:
This month, the secretary of the interior is expected to rule on whether polar bears should be listed under the Endangered Species Act. I strongly believe that adding them to the list is the wrong move at this time. My decision is based on a comprehensive review by state wildlife officials of scientific information from a broad range of climate, ice and polar bear experts.

The Center for Biological Diversity, an environmental group, has argued that global warming and the reduction of polar ice severely threatens the bears’ habitat and their existence. In fact, there is insufficient evidence that polar bears are in danger of becoming extinct within the foreseeable future — the trigger for protection under the Endangered Species Act. And there is no evidence that polar bears are being mismanaged through existing international agreements and the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act.

12. Her husband works for BP oil - from SoCalDem
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 11:04 AM by Solly Mack
"Until recently, he earned hourly wages as a production operator in a BP-run facility that separates oil from gas and water. Palin was making between $100,000 and $120,000 a year before he went on leave in December to make more time for his family and avoid potential conflicts of interest. London-based BP is heavily involved in the gas pipeline negotiations with his wife's administration.

Palin's advocacy dovetails neatly with his wife's No. 1 priority: forging a construction contract with private companies to transport natural gas from the North Slope to the Lower 48. The export of natural gas would presumably replace revenue from the state's dwindling oil reserves, which funded 80 percent of the state budget last year.

"He will be passing information on to me and participating in getting work force development programs up and running in Alaska," Sarah Palin said. "That's in addition to doing all the things that make Todd Todd. There are lots of things I would never want to take away from him, but this is something he's enthused about.""

26. Sounds like a perfect Bush crony.
"Regimes to protect Stellar Sea Lions must be based on sound science not personal agendas…"

Does the science agree with our decision to rape the environment? No. Well, then it's not sound science.

"I will fight in every way possible to make sure that our fishing communities are protected from the personal agendas of federal fishery managers"

The way she thinks is exactly why the world's fishing stocks are dwindling to nothing.

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/8/29/111428/917/148/578527

http://scienceblogs.com/afarensis/2006/10/27/intelligent_design_and_the_ala/

The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms.

Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, 'Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both.'

there aren't 'both'. There are many, many creation myths and she would be required to teach ALL of them.

Sarah Palin's proposed k-12 curricula:
• Geocentrism
• The turtle theory of cosmolgy
• Greek atomic theory (earth, fire, water, air)
• Flat Earth
• The demonic theory of disease
• Astrology
• The stork theory of reproduction
• Shamanism
• Talking snakes

"If flip-flopping is a sin, I'm a sinner," Mr. Dobson said. "As you know, I once said I don't see how I could ever come to support John McCain."

Mr. Dobson praised Mrs. Palin's reform credentials, but social conservatives said they were also excited about her pro-family and pro-life stances. Fiscal conservatives pointed to her support for tax cuts and her opposition to pork-barrel spending as reasons to get excited.

"She is the best possible choice," said Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly, the longtime leading spokeswoman of the social conservative movement. "She's right on all the important ideas."

Paul M. Weyrich, a founder of the modern conservative movement, added, "I must say, I never expected Senator McCain would make this good

This is neat that you're doing all of this good research and plopping all of these articles into one topic for us! I'm starting my new "Palin file" with all these bookmarks.

That one piece up there about her statements on global warming makes her sound as tho she's "rapture ready". That must be real comforting to her state constituents...I'd like to find out what the tribal communities think of her "governorship".

Thanks so much for getting busy with all this, Solly!

communities.

IT is also a place where they really don't want to have nothing to do with the government and in some ways it is mutual

That was the thing I found the most interesting about the trip during the summer

But she must be hiding her stance on nature, because that is a large issue now, especially with all the ecological tourism going on

60. Palin is claiming to be "undecided" on several issues...
concerning the mining and fisheries, issues that the corporations have pretty successfully driven a wedge into the very heart of the First Alaskan People. Have you read about that Bristol Bay deal, the open-pit mine they're trying to gouge into the middle of salmon headwaters? I can't find her opinion or statement on that anywhere, and it's been an ongoing rift for some time now. She's listed as not taking any side in a couple articles, but I'm still looking at deals and other decisions she's made, that may have affected the mining fight.

I'm seeing Palin as an opportunist snake in the grass, the more I read about her. Maybe they used Alaska as a test, since their obvious rethug crooks have been caught with their pants down up there, to see if they could buffalo that whole state into letting them retain power. Couple years of Palin and it's working, so now on to the big prize, our country. A real cunning tack.

71. Similar there, too.
Though Schlafly never had the folksy aura, more of a brittle one.

72. I get the sneaking suspicion she's only truly folksy if she likes you
and the rest is just her audience face.

73. Absolutely agree with that
Likely a crafted image designed to distract from extremist views.

The way she fires or tries to have people fired for personal/political reasons rather than performance ones says more about how she probably really is - vindictive. Nasty method, too - just dropping the letters on the city librarian and police chief's desks.

78. And also, to attract the Independents that Alaska is known for...
everything about her reads "false front", she's definitely been "crafted" to hornswoggle the people in her state, so now she's thrown on the national stage. She's the Janus with the smiling face and speaks one thing while she's enacting the opposite.

Thanks a lot for your links!

Double bonus since it also fits McCain.
The double Janus ticket!

Firing people for political rather than performance issues, as above.

On this one, search for Anne Kilkenny and read the full letter.

74. Her "anti-corruption" stance looking kind of shaky...

Palin Was a Director of Embattled Sen. Stevens's 527 Group

By Matthew Mosk

ST. PAUL -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin began building clout in her state's political circles in part by serving as a director of an independent political group organized by the now embattled Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens.

Palin's name is listed on 2003 incorporation papers of the "Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Inc.," a 527 group that could raise unlimited funds from corporate donors. The group was designed to serve as a political boot camp for Republican women in the state. She served as one of three directors until June 2005, when her name was replaced on state filings...

Palin, an anti-corruption crusader in Alaska, had called on Stevens to be open about the issues behind the investigation. But she also held a joint news conference with him in July, before he was indicted, to make clear she had not abandoned him politically.

Stevens had been helpful to Palin during her run for governor, swooping in with a last moment endorsement. And the two filmed a campaign commercial together to highlight Stevens's endorsement of Palin during the 2006 race.

Shortly after Palin was announced as McCain's vice presidential pick, the ad was removed from her gubernatorial campaign web site. It remains available on YouTube.

77. Palin on Health Care
Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 10:21 AM by Solly Mack
Palin

Health care must be market-and business-driven

Take personal responsibility for personal health & all areas

Doctors should manage health care, not bureaucracies

Personal responsibility & choices key to good health

"We have got to make wise, healthy personal choices, including choosing not to ignore child abuse. I'm counting on families, communities and faith-based groups to step up, together, to help passionately here, too."

Flexibility in government regulations to allow competition

More affordable health care via competition

79. Palin is the worst anti-environmentalist since James Watt
absolute bat shit crazy! Forget the whole pregnancy smokescreen, this issue speaks volumes about her complete lack of judgment or character. Her "policies" on the environment are straight out of the 30's and would be far too destructive to have her anywhere near DC. If Palin were any more divorced from reality she'd be governing from an igloo somewhere along the Aleutian Islands of Alaska.

83. Palin's Abramoff Connection - from Waiting For Everyman
Palin's Abramoff Connection

"Palin's Lobbyist Has Abramoff Ties
By Kate Klonick and Zachary Roth - September 2, 2008

It looks like Sarah Palin's claim to represent a cleaner brand of politics could be about to take a bruising.

The Washington Post reports today that, while Mayor of Wasilla, Palin oversaw the hiring of a lobbyist, Steven Silver -- a former chief of staff to now-indicted GOP senator Ted Stevens -- to help win federal earmarks for the city.

But Silver appears to have additional ties that could further undercut Palin's image as a squeaky-clean reformer. According to Senate lobbying disclosure reports examined by TPMmuckraker, from 2002 to 2004 Silver listed as a client Jack Abramoff's lobbying firm, Greenberg Traurig. On Greenberg's behalf, Silver lobbied the federal government on "issues relating to Indian/Native American policy," "exploration for oil and gas" and "legislation relating to gaming issues" -- the very issues that Abramoff headed up for Greenberg at the time. In other words, Silver appears to have been a part of "Team Abramoff.""
