People in the southern most point (Morant Point, St Thomas) are just beginning to feel the effects. Rain and breeze - lightning hit out power in some areas. It's nice and breezy (very pleasurable at this time of year). The real rain and breeze should get here in about two hours. Rain is the real worry hear and of course we really want to watch Barack Obama later so we'll be pissed if we lose cable.
We're not worried about us, just the poor people in the hills and on those dangerous gully banks. Lots of shelters are open but our people resist leaving their homes big time.

Just cooked a nice dinner for later. :D

16. The power company says they're not shutting down the grill

since at worst it will only be a Cat 1 and that seems unlikely. Just lots of rain and we'll be OK. Wish the damn cat would come inside :D

21. Okey Dokey, the worst part of Gustav has passed Kingston

Maximum winds were about 60mph here. The rain hasn't been that bad but we expect some more.

Some places had more winds than Kingston and some people lost their roofs. As it moves across the island, I'll get more details. Local TV is speaking with people from different parts of the island and so far we haven't had the sort of rain suggested by the Weather Channel. Looks like Portland, St Mary and St Ann will get the worst of Gustav. People are still driving up and down the streets as if nothing was happening.

We lost cable but still have power and are watching one of the local channel anyway. Give thanks for the internet - we'll watch Barack on line.
