Looks like once again, McCain will be trumped by a hurricane
Exhibit A:

July 24, 2008

Senator John McCain had splashy plans on Thursday intended to steal at least a little attention from Senator Barack Obama’s big speech in Berlin: He was to take a helicopter to an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico and meet with Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, who is being mentioned as a possible Republican vice-presidential pick.

But Hurricane Dolly thwarted Mr. McCain's plans to raise the issue of offshore oil drilling and the technology that he says has made it safe.

By midday Wednesday, just as blogs were trumpeting Mr. McCain's coming campaign stop on the rig, the McCain team canceled the trip and postponed the meeting with Mr. Jindal.

The campaign blamed Hurricane Dolly, which had just crossed the Texas coast with winds reported at 100 miles an hour. It did not mention that an oil tanker had just collided with a barge near New Orleans, shutting down 29 miles of the Mississippi River and sending hundreds of thousands of gallons of heavy fuel oil into the water.

Exhibit B:

April 24, 2008

Speaking in New Orleans about Hurricane Katrina today, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) tried to contrast himself with President Bush's delayed response to Katrina, saying, "I would've landed my airplane at the nearest Air Force base and come over personally." But as Newsweek notes, on Aug. 29, 2005, when Katrina had just hit New Orleans, McCain was posing with President Bush for his 69th birthday.

And now, Exhibit C:

August 26, 2008

Oil prices swung rapidly higher Tuesday as Hurricane Gustav threatened major oil operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

After falling close to $112 per barrel in overnight trading, light, sweet crude for October delivery spiked $2.33 to $117.44 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, a $5 swing.

1. The "we have to drill" pic at the bottom is hilarious.
It's amusing when sarcasm and reality coincide.

5. Okay so how many trips to oil rigs would this have made?
He did actually get on one but this is the second time he has had to call it off

All of this is rather surprising because you would think he could handle anything seeing as how he was a P.O.W. (he was google it and there is probably a link or two mentioning it)

:eyes:

6. Wow.
The last thing the repukes want at their convention is a reminder of the loss of NOLA under Bush. And here it comes.

Hang on, N'awlins!

7. No kidding. The fundies want it to rain out Obama's parade on Thursday.
How 'bout a hurricane washing out mcsame's big shindig? Especially if it's big news next week. The networks will have to divide their coverage, especially if the storm is really awful.

8. It's not the kind of thing you'd root for--
but still, if it happens, it's hard not to see it as some kind of sign.

10. Too bad they couldn't hold the GOP convention on an oil rig.
It would have been very symbolic.
