Can someone explain what would happen tomorrow if Leiberman booted tomorrow...

Can someone explain what would happen tomorrow if Leiberman booted tomorrow...
If the Dems did boot Leiberman tomorrow, would they have to change all the chair positions? Or would it have to wait until after the Nov elecions (in case the Rethugs would happen to win).

Or would things stay the same?

1. The GOP would want to change all the chair positions ASAP
This would allow them to control the Senate agenda.

2. The Dems aren't booting anyone; they're on 'recess'.
If Lieberman changes parties, the Dems hold the field until the next election, from what I've read. That would be this November. Lots going on, soon.
