Poll question: What is behind NBC's World Record Suckage coverage of the Olympics?
Many of my fellow DUers have been watching the abysmal coverage of the Olympics by NBC and have been amazed at how they have been able to outdo themselves by raising the level of suckage with each passing day.

Please choose from the selections below which statement best describes your opinion of NBC's Olympic coverage.

2. I Think The Coverage Is Pretty Good
And the pieces about life in China are interesting.

Just ignore the commercials.

4. I remember ABC's coverage and it was "kick-ass" great!
They has us riveted to the screen in Munich '72. The minute-by-minute coverage of Black September's taking of the Israeli hostages was and is still unforgettable.

5. It's FUBAR!!
One of the main factors is beyond their control - the time difference. You have tape delay, spoiler alerts, and who can keep up. They didn't manage it very well.
There are too many damn channels with no rhyme or reason. I know their are guides galore, but there should be one channel or something set up with a guide for everyday
that is user friendly. Screw the TVguide channel. I don't mind beach volleyball. It is exciting. However, this looks like the beach volleyball Olympics with Michael Phelps on the side.
I know you don't want to insult your hosts. However NBC is a NEWS channel too, and a lot of NEWS was in Beijing, and should have been covered by the reporters. Lester Holt was interviewing David Wallichinsky(sp), and he was telling Holt about something the Chinese were playing on TV that sounded like it was a little "jingoistic." Holt stopped him so fast, I thought he was giving up a national secret.
I normally like the Olympics, but I hate these. I've hated them since they were given to China. However, the coverage didn't help. They needed to look at how some other Olympics were covered. They could have taken some hints.

7. I don't know if the tie difference is really a factor beyond their control ...
...I lived in a Hispanic-dominated neighborhood and when the World Cup played, that's when it aired.

I always knew when Mexico had just scored: you could hear the shouts and horns and screams for joy!

It didn't matter if it was 4 in the morning, that's when it played.

9. True!
I wish they had shown the events when they were played. People would have watched replays
if there was enough interest. The problem was because NBC needed to have a lot in prime time
to get their money.

11. The problem was because NBC really didn't want to break the mold ...
...they lazily chose the safe path of old broadcast.

There are enough events, and if they covered it better, there would have been enough interest and ratings would still be there.

Hell, they already planned for selling DVDs of Michael Phelps' run.

12. NBC's no different because
The U.S. coverage always treats the Silver Medalist as the First Loser.

13. In Detroit, we get access to the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. channel across the river....
.... in Windsor, and their coverage is much better and more diverse. And there's pro-Canadian athletes coverage as you would expect, but they do a much better job showing the athletes from around the world. And they seem to do the patriotism thing much less stridently than US networks do.
