This week in cheap Chinese crap: Fly Swatters.
I needed a fly swatter for the first time in my life so I went the grocery store to get one. It only cost me $1.49, I could tell it was crap, but really how bad could it be?

Here's how bad. On the first swat it shattered into about a dozen pieces. And yes, I missed the fly. Call me crazy, but shouldn't a fly swatter last more than one swat?

Thank you China for living up to your reputation for making horrible products for the entire world to consume.

1. Be sure to transport the broken pieces to the nearest superfund site.
And don't let them touch your skin, if possible.

2. I'll probably take it back next time I go to the store.
Does anyone know where I can buy a real fly swatter?

We don't have a Fly-Swatters-R-Us here.

13. Just take one of theirs off the rack, with the tags and stickers on it ...

and demonstrate before their very eyes what kind of useless crap they sell.

8. Already tried that.
I'm about 1 for 100, hence the desire for a tool.

16. When the fly lands, move your hands into a clapping position close to the fly.
Then clap. The fly will take off straight up into your hands.

It's a little messy, but it gets the job done.

6. I remember when flyswatters
were made of screen and had the edges bound in a heavy sewn cloth binding. They lasted for decades, and, of course, they were made in the USA.

However, a flyswatter that last decades is clearly bad for the economy. Consumerism can only be supported by cheap plastic crap that falls apart quickly. Otherwise, millions of people would be out of a job and the economy would collapse. You don't want that, do you?

So buy that cheap plastic crap and be proud to do so. It's your patriotic duty.

11. My parents had a plastic fly swatter with a wire handle that lasted my entire childhood.
The thing is, I bet that was just as cheap to make as the new all-plastic version that breaks after one use.

I think I'm going to make my own since I really don't have a clue where to buy a good fly swatter.

9. My favorite way to round up flies: A cup of soapy water...
Move the cup UNDER the fly. Flies drop a few inches before they take off.

The soap wets their wings and they can't fly.

Flush the cup when your done. No muss - no fuss.
