Defying gravity - Olympic gymnastics
Is what I have been thinking. High bar, parallel bars, single bar.... most of us would have hard time just keeping balance on one bar, and here they are hurling themselves, twirling, jumping from bar to bar while turning upside down several times.

Amazing.

And I have no idea how they grade them. Unless a person falls from the bar, or loses his/her balance, I think all of them are perfect. Especially when one gets a few more fraction points than the other.

And then there are those moments of the "agony of defeat." Will not provide specific examples, as they may be spoiler but if a "sure thing" stumbles, does not reach first place - why do they have to shove a microphone in their faces to ask them: what did just happen? And then follow these people away from the arena, showing them all alone, agonizing.

1. I agree to a point
I guess a lot of news photographers want to follow a story and be one of the few to get the images that no one else is getting, but I think that I would be rather mad if I walked down an empty hallway to cry and some news photographer followed me with a camera so the rest of the world could watch.

3. Because threads about the Olympics are allowed here?
Because the Lounge has gotten too cliqued for some of us?

You can always hit the alert button and cry on a shoulder of a moderator, you know.

6. I can hardly bear to watch the balance beam events..
since it looks so dangerous to me, like how easy it would be for one of them to slip and crack their heads open on the beam itself.
