C-Span caller finds evidence McCain listened to Obama's responses
Obama and McCain spent saturday kissing Christian ass. It was recorded, you can find it if you want to watch it. Part of the set up for this dog-and-pony show was that Obama would answer questions first and then the same questions would be asked of McCain. McCain was not supposed to be able to hear the questions or Obama's responses. The Announcer confirmed these rules at the beginning of the show - good choice of words with that one, calling it a "show" that is.

At 9:49 this morning a caller into C-Span noted that in answering one question McCain referred to and asked to get back to a question he had not been asked yet. The only way he could have known the question was part of the show was if he had either been briefed beforehand as to what the questions would be or if he was able to hear Obama's responses. Both of those things would not and could not happen according to the Announcer's opening line of crap.

Just thought you'd all like to know. I expect the replay from C-Span will be available on line shortly so the exact words can be heard and this can be confirmed. I would hope that someone from Countdown caught it and will be pointing this out to the world this evening. You can bet none of the other FOX clones will be doing it.

1. Republicans cheat. It's what they do.
If they ran the country half as well as they cheat to win elections, we wouldn't be in the shape we're in now.

38. But they lie, cheat and steal because Jesus said it's ok.

In fact, it seems to be how they honor God, because they do it so often, and are unilaterally dripping with moralizing sanctimony when they do it.

Wrap yourself in a flag, pound on a Bible, rob the country blind in such a way that allies are lost and innocents are killed. BE a Republican.

56. Republicans don't give a shit about Christ.
They are pure and simple only concerned about two things; Money and the power that money brings.

And given my admitted lack of knowledge of word by word scriptures (whose words anyway), I have to say that approach to life is probably not what Jesus had in mind when he sacrificed himself for the greater good.

Show me a Republi Party member who won't bullshit about their "personal relationship" with Je$u$ hri$t and how Je$u$ lives in their heart. These SAME asshole Republi Party members are self centered narcissists who spend an hour a week in a segregated church, then come out to live the rest of the week following their beloved St Ayn AS IN MINE Rand's "Get yours and fuck everyone else" philosophy. Yes, I ask you, what could be MORE American than stabbing everyone else in the back, lying cheating and stealing to amass a fortune and then living in a gated community isolated from the millions of "losers" who barely get by. Yep, as their beloved Ayn as in mine said, "The masses are poor because they don't apply themselves". And what better model of hri$tianity is there that Mrs Osteen, the self centerd snot who displays the very best of hri$tian values?

70. I'm sorry, but you are quite mistaken!
Ayn Rand NEVER employed a "get yours and fuck everyone else philosophy." Her philosophy was more "getting yours will somehow magically benefit everyone else in the long run." Objectivism had nothing to do with "stabbing everyone else in the back, lying cheating and stealing to amass a fortune and then living in a gated community..." That's not what Dagney Taggart was all about. Dagney Taggart and Hank whatever his name was were all about making a quality product and selling it at a reasonable markup to a grateful public. Something that is all but lost in the capitalism of today.

Granted, Rand's philosophy is not something that works in the real world, but it is not as you describe, either. The self-righteous Christian liars and thieves are not acting in an Objectivist fashion AT ALL. To mix one discredited philosophy with another, much more dangerous worldview of obfuscate and steal from the suckers does nobody any good.

If you wanna vent, at least get the rant straight...

Nobody preached selfishness more than Ayn as in Mine!

Yes, listen to the high Prie$te$$ of $elfi$hne$$ her$elf! She was probably banging Alan Greenspan when she wrote this shit...

Happiness is that state of consciousness which proceeds from the achievement of ones values.
("Objectivist Ethics," The Virtue of Selfishness, p. 28)

One is that a man doesn't want people to know he's rich. Another is that he doesn't want them to learn how he got that way.

So you think that money is the root of all evil? Have you ever asked what is the root of money? Money is a tool of exchange, which can't exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them. Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must deal by trade and give value for value. Money is not the tool of the moochers, who claim your product by tears or of the looters, who take it from you by force. Money is made possible only by the men who produce. Is this what you consider evil?

If you ask me to name the proudest distinction of Americans, I would choose- because it contains all the others- the fact that they were the people who created the phrase to make money. No other language or nation had ever used these words before; men had always thought of wealth as a static quantity- to be seized, begged, inherited, shared, looted or obtained as a favor. Americans were the first to understand that wealth has to be created.

There is a stage of worship which makes the worshipper himself an object of reverence.

I am a man who does not exist for others.

I have come here to say that I do not recognize anyone's right to one minute of my life.... It had to be said. The world is perishing from an orgy of self-sacrificing.

To say 'I love you' one must know first how to say the 'I.'

I am. I think. I will.

And now I see the face of god, and I raise this god over the earth, this god whom men have sought since men came into being, this god who will grant them joy and peace and pride. This god, this one word: 'I.'

There is nothing to take a man's freedom away from him, save other men. To be free, a man must be free of his brothers.

The highest thing in a man is not his god. It's that in him which knows the reverence due a god. You are my heighest reverence.

America's abundance was created not by public sacrifices to the common good, but by the productive genius of free men who pursued their own personal interests and the making of their own private fortunes. They did not starve the people to pay for America's industrialization. They gave the people better jobs, higher wages, and cheaper goods with every new machine they invented, with every scientific discovery or technological advance- and thus the whole country was moving forward and profiting, not suffering, every step of the way.

Businessmen are the one group that distinguishes capitalism and the American way of life from the totalitarian statism that is swallowing the rest of the world. All the other social groups- workers, farmers, professional men, scientists, soldiers- exist under dictatorships, even though they exist in chains, in terror, in misery, and in progressive self-destruction. But there is no such group as businessmen under a dictatorship. Their place is taken by armed thugs: by bureaucrats and commissars. Businessmen are the symbol of a free society- the symbol of America.

Thanksgiving is a typically American holiday... The lavish meal is a symbol of the fact that abundant consumption is the result and reward of production.

I am not primarily an advocate of capitalism, but of egoism; and I am not primarily an advocate of egoism, but of reason. If one recognizes the supremacy of reason and applies it consistently, all the rest follows.

I REST MY CASE

I still think you misrepresented her philosophy.

I'm familiar with her work, and believe she was sadly mistaken in so many areas.
She's not MY high priestess, and never was.
If her followers took her twisted ideas and made them even more twisted, that's their fault.

Personally, I do believe one of the highest virtues is reason, the problem is that everybody has a different perspective on what reason is. From the little that I've read from you, you don't seem to be very reasonable. At all.

But again - whatever...

7. One would hope that if an assertion like this was made on C-Span that someone will followup
I know there are a lot of nut calls into Washington Journal but its also true that those in power watch and listen. I would be more than willing to bet that a lot more than one television is always tuned in with someone watching and taking notes no matter if we're talking about the Senate or House office buildings, the White House, and the headquarters of every Agency in DC as well. Possibly the news networks watch too? This is the sort of alligation that those nosepickers seem to love the most. Its just like blond-haired girls gone missing in exotic places and church-house shootings for likelyhood of coverage by those brain-dead turds.

6. I remember hearing McConeOfSilence ask about getting back to a question
topic and thinking "wait - he has not asked that question yet" - but I put it off to my own fallible memory.

But the truth is on the tape. McConeOfSilence wanted to fast forward to a question that had not yet been asked.

This DEMONstrates that he had some knowledge of questions to be asked.

Now, on the CNN video being circulated, the good rev Warren starts to "clarify" the situation around what the interviewees knew and when they knew it. He says that he told them in what the topics of the questions would be before the interview, but he did not tell them the specific questions. This retroactively covers McConeOfSilences butt as now we have no definitive proof that he listened to Obama's portion of the interview, but there is an explanation for him knowing what one of the questions was about.

These people are scum.

14. Rev Snake-Oil was a piss-poor host.. He ADVERTISED
"Obama & McCain ON THE SAME STAGE"

To do that he should have had them BOTH come out BEFORE any questions were asked..and then had McCain sit there with headphones to block hearing the questions..perhaps with his back to the audience..

It strains credulity..

You are hosting an event that's being covered LIVE by many tv stations, and you don't bother to visit with EACH guest BEFORE it starts..or at least CHECK TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE BOTH IN THE BUILDING..

and to have your staff pat down the guy who goes 2nd to make SURE he's got no Blackberry or cellphone..

This was pre-planned to trip Obama up, and to reassure the fundies that Mccain's "got it"..

31. Great point about him not seeing McCain beforehand.
Willful ignorance or incompetent corruption. Make your pick. Or perhaps both.

Also, some of the questions were obviously slanted to McCain. For example, he asked them what they thought about worldwide adoption knowing that McCain has an adopted daughter from another country. Why not ask about community service? If you're going to toss McCain a slow ball, you should also toss Obama a slow ball as well.

8. HuffPost today - NYT is on it now too
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/18/nyt-backs-up-n...

"However, the New York Times' Kit Seelye has boldly backed up Mitchell's claim in today's story, "Despite Assurances, McCain Wasn't in a 'Cone of Silence'." Per Seelye:

Senator John McCain was not in a "cone of silence" on Saturday night while his rival, Senator Barack Obama, was being interviewed at the Saddleback Church in California... The matter is of interest because Mr. McCain, who followed Mr. Obama's hourlong appearance in the forum, was asked virtually the same questions as Mr. Obama. Mr. McCain's performance was well received, raising speculation among some viewers, especially supporters of Mr. Obama, that he was not as isolated during the Obama interview as Mr. Warren implied."

20. Warren claimed the questions would be identical
In his intro, Warren said, "NOW WHAT IVE DECIDED IS TO ALLOW FOR PROPER COMPARISON IM GOING TO ASK IDENTICAL QUESTIONS TO EACH OF THESE CANDIDATES SO YOU CAN COMPARE APPLES TO APPLES."

Of course, he also said, "AND WE HAVE SAFELY PLACED SENATOR MCCAIN IN A CONE OF SILENCE." Which he admitted on CNN was a lie.

I do not think the questions were identical as claimed, though much of the intent was very similar. I have not ahd a chance to go through the transcript to compare the questions side by side, though.

(The all caps are because I took the quotes directly from the transcript. Sorry about that.)

83. Yes, I was looking through the transcript last night.
While some were identical wording, the most loaded ones were slanted just enough to give McCain his lead in to answer with the "correct" right wing fundie response. And in general the way that Obama's questions were phrased, they invited a discussion while McCain's were slanted towards more simplistic, declarative statements.

Overall, the questions played to make Obama look less decisive and McCain more capable of a snap decision.

Of course, we all know that a snap decision is not the best way to determine the best path for our country. But the slow witted right wing nuts can't understand this.

this topic but I am happy to hear an astute caller mentioned in on WJ today! 17. Did Cindy slip a LIVE cell phone in between her sling and cast?
Why is there not more talk about this supposed "coin toss" just prior to going on the air on

Saturday?

Since McCain was not even in the building, why would a coin toss even be done?

For example, when's the last time you've heard two baseball teams getting together to play

and one team who is not even at the stadium yet agrees to a coin toss. It just doesn't

happen.

Was Cindy McCain in the lobby of the church prior to the forum beginning, talking to her

husband on her cell phone, and then left her cell phone turned on, and carefully placed it in

between her sling and the actual cast, before re-entering the congregation? There is plenty

of room to slip a phone into this discreet area, and have it go undetected for the duration of

the forum.

Furthermore, perhaps she didn't even really hurt her hand shaking someone else's hand

recently but rather just wanted to have a strategy in place to make sure McCain got these

questions in advance, in order to have a strong advantage over Obama.

If you notice, none of the women in the audience, including Cindy herself, appear to have

purses on their lap(s). If the women did have purses with them, they were probably under

their seats, and it would be much harder to pick up the discussion at the forum on a live cell

phone if hidden in a purse on the floor.

But having a live cell phone in between the sling and cast would have allowed the phone to

be at chest level and certainly high enough above the ground to pick up the discussion

clearly, IMO.

Also, the mic's were turned up VERY LOUD at this forum so McCain could have easily

been listening - and hearing EVERY word - on the other end.

Lastly, someone should ask Obama if there actually was a coin toss or what exactly

happened in regards to that. This is still not clear, to my knowledge.

71. How brilliant!
But of course, Cindy's phony arm sling was a set up for a hearing device, or something more advanced than the 'wireless remote hearing device' Bush wore during the John Kerry/Bush debates and during his Q and A sessions with the press. You have to be suspicious that Cindy broke her arm while shaking hands. This "cone of silence" debate will have legs. The Obama campaign should ask for tighter rules or setups for future debates to make sure they are cheat-free.

I posted about McCain's answer to the abortion question. He was blithering on when Warren

started to make a remark. McCain said,"What about the justices?" I thought that was an odd interruption.

I then thought he had to be referring to what justices he would not have appointed.

That hadn't been asked yet. This may not be the incident.

19. This was noted right after the forum.
C-Span took calls after the event and several people thought that McCain seemed more prepared than he should have been.

before the questions were finished being asked - especially if you remember the way he rolled his eyes and hemmed and hawed endlessly
when he was asked the question about Viagra being covered by insurance but not birth control.

video of McBush answering the teacher question - and if the video is correct - McCain answered the question with no, no and yes before the question was asked. Not finding on Google now - it was on page 1 - went back to page 9.

26. If you sat through any of the repub debates
Question about same sex marriage and abortion often involved supreme court justices. It is expected that you can't talk about one without the other. It doesn't seem to me that he was referencing the specific question, only that he wanted to talk about the importance of supreme court justices in the context of that issue. He said "get back to" to see if he should talk about it now, or whether there would be a question specifically on the supreme court later on.

It is a stretch to say that this is proof of cheating. It's like a buzz word for the right wing, like merit pay. They trigger specific talking points.

The reason why he seemed "so well prepared" is because he's dealt with these issues and similar questions ad nauseum, through debates and townhalls. There's nothing he said last night that cannot be found verbatim in a previous speech or transcript. (particularly the part about merit pay).

28. When the announcer stated that McLame was in a sound proof room that was
an out right lie by this "christian" buffoon. The McLame entourage had not yet arrived at the studio and was still in transit so it's highly likely that one of his surrogates in the car with him, was on their mobile with another that was in the audience giving him the heads up about what the questions were going to be.

29. I'm sure the McCain campaign has the resources for a TV in his limo.
After all, his wife supplies him with a corporate jet -- along with 10 houses. McCain could have EASILY listened in no matter where he was.

Obama should have limited debate to the actual presidential debates rather than allow these so-called christians (small 'c' intended) to use his participation to hoodwink not only him but the viewers as well.

Please, let this be a lesson. Also, make sure McCain isn't wired for the real debates like Bush was in 2004.

30. Sorry, but this is NOT the smoking gun that people think it is.
Not trying to defend McCain, but analyzing this objectively so that we don't just levy this charge against McCain without our best guns blazing.

Rick Warren had said that he told the candidates topics that he would cover. One topic that he mentioned was the Supreme Court. He didn't tell them the specific question, but told them this topic.

The question referenced here is when McCain asked to talk more about the Supreme Court. We already know that both candidates were told that the Supreme Court would be a topic. That's why this is not a smoking gun.

A UNION -- A UNION BETWEEN MAN AND WOMAN, BETWEEN ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN, THAT'S MY DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE. ARE WE GOING TO GET BACK TO THE IMPORTANCE OF SUPREME COURT JUSTICES.

Q WE'LL GET TO THAT.

A ALL RIGHT. OKAY.

Q YOU GOT ALL MY QUESTIONS, GOOD.

54. ACCORDING TO HIS PR FIRM
which was taking calls today (number for church was posted in earlier thread), NO ONE WAS SUPPOSE TO BELIEVE THAT "rev" warren MEANT MCCAIN WAS IN A "CONE OF SILENCE."

They claim he snickered when he said it and we were all suppose to understand it was a joke.

Pretty lame since he repeated it a few times (does anyone know, did he snicker each time) and also directly stated mccain was there when he was not.

They claimed to know all about this but because of the Secret Service, they reported he was there, but we were not suppose to believe it.

Pretty lame even by corporate-shill, PR standards, isn't it!

57. Ya know, this kinda reminds me...........
....that Al Gore could have won the election in 2000 by a landslide. All Gore had to do was put his arm around bush at that third debate, and ask the putz to please remove the receiver strapped to his back used to feed him answers. That would have been the defining moment in Gores' campaign, and he could have had the Whitehouse for eight years. I wonder if this is possibly Obamas' defining moment. I doubt it.

66. there seems to have been a power play by dobson
to get the questions changed. warren wanted to ask questions that were not the "hot button issues" but pressure from the far right christians-dobson made warren change the questions. this was discussed yesterday on an air america broadcast..it may have been sam seder.

both candidates knew what the themes were going to be but not the exact questions. since john has no functioning brain cells it would lead me to believe he was given the exact questions either in advance or by electronic means.

68. Warren gave them the 'evil' question ahead of time and then he gave them the 'orphan'
question when they arrived - but McCain wasn't there to get it. So supposedly Obama was the only one that got this question. However given the fact that McCain had a foreign adoption in his family that was a little bit more difficult than asking him what his middle name was.

The questions were about as fair as if they had said they were going to play 'horse' for the White House.

They asked about abortion but didn't ask McCain about the death penalty.

They justify their acts as truly believe in the heart of their hearts that they wouldn't be able get away with it if Jeeeeesus wouldn't want them to. Since they do get away with it - that is proof that Jeeeeeesus wants them to. There you have it - A positive reinforcement for what is otherwise a negative thing. I actually heard some guy saying on the radio while I was driving through rural America --- "I am rich because God wants me to be rich - therefore it is a sin to vote Democrat as the Democrat will raise taxes -- and that is against God's will" ... I could not believe the shit I was hearing -- I mean how gullible can people be ... They are like good salesman -- they drink their own koolaid and believe in their own bullshit.

The honest truth is that Republicans are a coalition of one issue people. Folks who want tax breaks and folks who want a statue of Jeeeesus in Times Square.. each of them is singularly focused on his/her goal and will do anything to achieve it.

The real issue with us is that we try to reason with people like them when the reality is that they are beyond reason. They have reptilian brains that will only respond to very basic stimuli like hunger, greed, sex, fear etc ... The smart people like Rove are very aware of this fact and exploit it to the hilt.

82. Condor said it...
...'You people think that not getting caught in a lie is the same thing as telling the truth'.

To Rethugs all's fair - it's a game to them, albeit a terribly serious one. If you ain't breaking the rules you ain't tryin'. Obama was facing a 'stacked deck' in that environment. I don't believe it was a cell-phone, or a Blackberry - although they could have added to the 'fix'. No, I'm convinced that McLame and his people had the questions in advance...I mean do you really believe that that senile old fart could have been 'coached up' enough to have given that good of a performance in the twenty or thirty minutes he had. No, they had the questions, prepared and schooled him on the responses way in advance - the fact that they may also have listened to Obama's responses just to make sure they didn't have any surprises is likely as well.

If Obama and his people don't scrub the shit out of the debates, including monitoring all the frequencies to ensure that they don't have the prick wired, then you can expect more of the same.
