Suskind: Forgery Created In Direct Response To Wilson's Debunking Of Niger Forgeries
Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 12:54 PM by kpete
Suskind explained that as early as January 2003, months before the invasion of Iraq, "There's a relationship to the Iraq intelligence chief. ... We made him our source. ... He tells us there are no WMD." However, the administration blew off the CIA's reports on Habbush, preferring to believe the claims by a low-level informant, known as "Curveball," that Iraq was actively producing WMD's.

As a result, once the war had started, Habbush became an embarrassment. "We end up paying him $5 million and hiding him," Suskind stated. "He's kind of radioactive as that summer unfolds and it's clear there are no weapons."

According to Suskind, even though the Habbush letter was not released until December 2003, it was created in direct response to Joseph Wilson's debunking of the earlier Niger forgeries in July 2003. Not only does the Habbush letter tie Iraq to al Qaeda, but it also refers to an Iraqi purchase of uranium from Niger and its shipment across Syria.

As previously reported by Raw Story, the United States was actively attempting to discover, or even fabricate, evidence of Iraqi WMD's or uranium purchases throughout the spring and summer of 2003. The Habbush forgery appears to have directly followed the failure of those attempts.

1. How many crimes did the Bush junta commit to go to war?
it must have been very profitable for them to do so.

Can we seize the assets of those who lied about this war and profited from it?

let's see what crimes we can list

1. Premeditated Murder
2. War Profiteering
3. Kidnapping
4. Torture
5. Violation of numerous constitutional provisions and protections, including honoring treaties, such as The Nuremberg Treaty that prohibits wars of aggression.
6. Obstruction of justice
7. Fraud
8. Theft

but hey, no problem. they didn't have sex.

9. I wonder who Gannon's bottom was.
I tend to think it was Scottie Mc. But he was probably a tool to blackmail ppl, too. Tony Blair is one person that comes to mind since Gannon talked about "entertaining" him or some such.

but hey, if a conservative says something didn't happen it didn't. okay? what are you? a troublemaker?

5. Stuff that makes me wanna hollar...
"This does not seem to have created the firestorm that you would think. ... It must be weird to learn about this shit and then think, 'Ooh, fourteen months from now, ooh, people are going to go crazy' -- but then they don't."

It's Jon Stewart talking, but it could've been any of us.

Makes me wanna hollar, or maybe just curl up and cry.

6. IF Dems get serious about outing all Bush Admin Crimes it will take a decade to fully investigate
There is so criminal activity just below the surface that is interconnected to even worse criminal activity that it will take a long time to fully investigate it all.

OF course you don't have to unearth everything to take action against Bush for crimes he committed. We have more than enough to begin right now.

8. I'm still surprised
that Bushco and the Neocons apparently did not plant "fake" WMD in Iraq. No doubt they at least considered it and maybe even tried. But for some reason it didn't get it done. Were they afraid of the DNA footprint? Somebody might spill the beans? Somebody should ask Scott McClellan what he knows.

11. Exactly.
This failure to produce fake evidence of WMD is a story in itself. Some key players apparently weren't performing their tasks according to special ops plans.

15. Epic Fail on the part of the * administration
No matter what they did, they never persuaded anyone after the invasion. Of course, this lack of proof didn't keep them from invading and hasn't resulted in any criminal charges being brought against them.
