What is the deal with "Savage Nation"
My husband and I were on my way to my mom's when we passed an oft seen billboard for AM 560: It's the Right and the Wrong not the Right and the Left" Or something to that effect. So we turned to that station out of boredom and I had my first dose of Savage.

Truly a disgusting specimen. He truly is in love with himself. However he outright attacked all marines, including John Murtha, that he said did not "walk the walk". Is he a marine? Then he claimed that there is a documentary coming out in the UK proving global warming is a scam. I looked up the story he was talking about and it says the program boasts 9 well respected scientists. Didn't the UN report have around...600? Anyway, he said that he was the only one qualified to talk about global warming. Does he have a degree in the field?

He's good for a few laughs I guess. But has he served in the military and does he truly have credentials to make a decision on global warming? I looked him up quickly and I couldn't find anything. But before I pass that info on, I want to make sure it is correct.

1. No, he's a loudmouthed shitheel

Before he got on radio he sold vitamins on an infomercial. He has no knowledge of anything. He's just an egotistical jackass getting paid off by the corporate world.

20. I should add:
I've heard about him having a Ph. D., and frankly I think he should have stayed with ethnobotany. There's a lot of good to be gained from examination of native herbals as medical treatments, and there's an enormous wealth of bad that comes from his radio show.

2. I think he has an entry in wikipedia - and yes, I think info in wiki
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 12:28 PM by Cerridwen
should be approached skeptically, but it's a good place to start. I'll go find a link fer ya.

edit for link and snippet on educational background

After high school, Savage attended and earned a bachelors degree from Queens College in education and sociology. He taught high school for several years in New York City. His first marriage in 1964 ended in divorce and he remarried after meeting his current wife in 1967.<8> He then earned two masters degrees in ethnobotany and anthropology from the University of Hawaii. He then obtained a Ph.D. in 1978 from the University of California, Berkeley.<9> According to Savage's book The Savage Nation and NewsMax's biography,<2> Savage earned his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in Epidemiology and Nutrition Sciences, however, UC Berkeley records report his Ph.D. to be in Nutritional Ethnomedicine.<9> His thesis was titled "Nutritional Ethnomedicine in Fiji". Savage spent many years researching botany in the South Pacific and has a background in alternative medicine. wiki article to start on

19. Amazing, ain't it?
Edited on Fri Mar-09-07 12:51 PM by Cerridwen
Yeah, I followed a couple of the wiki links to his "legitimate" bios listed at his site and some radio network site. They stress he's trained as a "scientist." *sigh*

It reminds me of that dr. laura windbag. she was giving relationship and biblical advice and her Ph.D. was in what? Great, now I gotta go google again. LOL

edit: Ph.D in physiology which I'm sure is very instructive about biblical and psychiatric evaluations.

4. Savage did not serve in the military, nor does he have
a background in climatology. Regarding these alleged 9 well respected scientists, I wonder how many have attempted to publish their findings in peer reviewed science journals.

5. Here's some information
Michael Savage was born Michael Alan Weiner in the borough of the Bronx in New York City to a Russian Jewish family. He grew up in Queens and graduated from Jamaica High School, a public high school in New York City. His family was not wealthy and he worked odd jobs that include ice cream factory worker, busboy and lifeguard.

After high school, Savage attended and earned a bachelors degree from Queens College in education and sociology. He taught high school for several years in New York City. His first marriage in 1964 ended in divorce and he remarried after meeting his current wife in 1967. He then earned two masters degrees in Ethnobotany and Anthropology from the University of Hawaii. He then obtained a Ph.D. in 1978 from the University of California, Berkeley. According to Savage's book The Savage Nation and NewsMax's biography,<3> Savage earned his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in Epidemiology and Nutrition Sciences, however, UC Berkeley records report his Ph.D. to be in Nutritional Ethnomedicine. His thesis was titled "Nutritional Ethnomedicine in Fiji". Savage spent many years researching botany in the South Pacific and has a background in alternative medicine.

No military service.

12. am560 is a joke
when i was working this fall in chicago i`d see these billboards stating they were liberals worst nightmare or something like that. so i looked up their ratings in chicago--they did`t make it past a one share and were ranked last on the top 30 stations.
for right wing radio nothing beats-wls890...

24. Roughly the same
But compare the two stations. WIND (560) has great dial placement that lends itself to a great signal that can be clearly received even north of Milwaukee. They boom out almost as far as WGN, WBBM, WLS, etc. When they were airing a Spanish-language format, they actually showed up in the Milwaukee ratings book.

WCPT, the libtalker, is a daytime-only station at 850AM with a signal that does not cover the whole market (they skew to the north and west). They sign off from sunset to sunrise. Yet in the most recent ratings trend report from Arbitron, both stations are tied.

There's quite a few markets out there where the liberal talk station easily cleans the clock of the Salem conservotalker.

13. You mean Michael Weiner?
That's his real name; Savage is his "I'm a dangerous, edgy, controversial radio guy who lays it out there, if you can handle it" stage name.

He has a PhD in nutritional ethnomedicine (I'd snark at that, but I don't want to insult the hardworking nutritional ethnomedical community because I'm too lazy to find out what it is they supposedly do). He was raised a Hassidic Jew in the Bronx (now claims Universalism, but has narrow views on morality), once espoused far more liberal views than he does now, and has published four best-selling books of commentary (Cliff Notes version: liberals are fags, and fags and nonreligious Jews are ruining America). Claims to support animals and the environment, while blasting immigrants, government and big business.

No military experience. No professional expertise in climate research. Pretty much your standard radio bloviator, but meaner and crazier. His fans are much scarier than he is.

30. For A While WCPT Did
The station owns a billboard near downtown Chicago on the Kennedy Expressway. At one time it had a take off of the WIND Billboard that said "Conservative Hate It". The last time I drove past, it said "Bring The Troops Home Now".

I never bother with the hate static of WIND or WLS...I'll check out WCPT (when it's available) as well as WVON all the way at 1690...the black talker that can be quite interesting to listen to.

after he erupted into an anti-gay tirade.
