With all the talk of infidelity and the "nature of man" here is some science
The Kinsey institute is the undisputed worldwide center for sex research. Here is their FAQ with study references that can be further researched using the google if you like.

Personally I've been to the Kinsey institute, participated in a couple of their studies, and took a couple of classes in college from their professors... and I had some preconceptions challenged this morning by looking at this. So please have a look. Notice that men and women aren't as different as many would have you believe. And keep in mind that just because "everyone" claims to be doing or not doing a certain thing, your perception is mightily biased by who you associate with AND what they CHOOSE to say to you. Also every human being has a tendency to remember things better that support their preconceptions. Fact.

1. Gee, 11% doesn't seem like the overwhelming majority I had been led to believe
were committing adultery. And here I was thinking that my husband and I were in the minority.

Thanks for posting this. It's interesting.

8. Very interesting, if counterintuitive;
mind you, I am NOT in the "adultery is human (or male human) nature" crowd. But what you'd call anecdotal evidence sure does seem to suggest 11% is a bit low.

At the very least, how come so many 11-percenters seem to end up in politics?:P

11. I do think Edwards was probably right about the atmosphere in politics led him
to feel untouchable.

Maybe 'untouchable' isn't the right word...

2. Hey, did you check out the stats on homosexuality? What the hell is "something else"?
Whatever it is, 3.9% of respondents identified that way.

3. I was just talking to my wife about that... not sure but here are some thoughts
If you notice that 7.8% or so of men and women report having homosexual desire, and you add the "something else" to the bi and homosexual percentages you get about 8%. So I would conjecture that some of them don't want to admit that they're bi/gay, some don't believe in labels, some of them only want to have sex with deli meat, some are transexual, etc.

But that's about 12 million people.... I REALLY want to know what the something else is!!!!!

4. LOL about the deli meat....Yeah, you are probably right about people
feeling ambiguous and not wanting to commit to being gay.

6. Or comment on a thread that defies the general consensus. Where are all the 'adultery is human
nature' people on this thread?

12. Or the fact they have been cheated on. That's my mother.
My father cheated on my mother repeatedly. Her excuse for him was that it was just a man's nature. That absolves him of fault and allows her to feel like it didn't have anything to do with her. When I asked her if she thinks MY husband would cheat, she said no, he is too honest.

I didn't have the heart to pursue it any more. My dad is dead. Let sleeping dogs lie (pun unintended).

18. Everyone lies about all sorts of things, but good studies have good controls
Don't forget that most sex studies are conducted with anonymous methods as well.

16. The Kinsey Institute must be using better methodology than Alfred did...
if it is indeed the undisputed worldwide center for sex research

21. It's not only this specific issue heh.
A study can be performed 1,000 times in every country in the world, and if if doesn't meet people's expectations they say "Pfah, what a bunch of crap science." :eyes:
