Potential presidential assassin just caught? Report out of Maryland....

This sounds spooky. We all talk about the potential for harm to Obama. And whether this guy was going to go after Bush or the next president, it's stuff like this that gets scary. And it also I think shows the state of heavy tension this nation is now that will provoke such actions...

Prosecutors: Teen Had Fake Govt. IDs, Map Of Presidential Motorcade
Teen Charged With Possessing Explosive Materials, Illegal Firearms Faces New Allegations

POSTED: 5:29 pm EDT August 5, 2008
UPDATED: 9:48 am EDT August 6, 2008

ROCKVILLE, Md. -- A teenager accused of having explosive materials and firearms in his Bethesda home also possessed two fake government IDs and a map of a presidential motorcade, prosecutors said.

Collin McKenzie-Gude, 18, had a map of Camp David highlighting a motorcade route and a manual titled "How To Kill Someone At A Distance Of 200 Meters," prosecutors said Tuesday.

The recent graduate of St. John's College High School also planned to obtain range-finding glasses typically used by sniper teams, prosecutors said.

One counterfeit ID in his possession indicated McKenzie-Gude was a CIA employee, prosecutors said. Another identification card with McKenzie-Gude's photo and the name "Michael K. Landry" indicated he was a U.S. government contractor authorized to work in Iraq under the protection of the Geneva Convention, prosecutors said.

1. Yikes.
I'm glad they caught him. Had he tried he likely wouldn't have succeeded but may have taken some innocent people with him. :scared:

3. If true, he's an idiot
The last thing this country needs is for someone to turn Bush** into a martyr.

5. Yeah, I agree that he likely wouldn't succeed and it would do far more harm than good...
Sounds like he's not stupid though (even if he's deluded), since he's going to American University in their International Studies division. Heck my father studied international studies there too when we lived in DC...

Perhaps he has some wild idea of trying to do a "reverse shock doctrine" treatment on America and has tried to study up on sixties groups like The Weathermen or the SLA too much.

Certainly that is the net effect of more of these nutballs potentially doing things if folks like Nancy Pelosi sit around and do nothing while Rome burns!

7. Perhaps it's part of the "Martial Law" plan... Maybe this guy's a "set piece" for that!

I still wonder what we'll see before the end of the year when these guys realize that they have far less chance of getting pardoned than Nixon did, unless they play some funky games (aka Bush pardons everyone, and then resigns, and the Cheney takes over and pardons Bush).

8. I don't think these guys are
going to go quietly into the night, and the rest of the year could be very disturbing. Not so sure it has so much to do with guilt (they have no consciences) or pardons, but more with arrogance and feeling they are above the law, rulers by right, and not about to give it all up.

10. Kennedy was not killed in a state of heavy tension
There's always going to be at least one nutjob who wants to kill the President.

12. But the nutjobs that killed both Kennedys and MLK then have all been shown to likely have had help!
Edited on Thu Aug-07-08 02:10 AM by calipendence
There was a lot of tension then with the Cuban Missile crisis and earlier the Bay of Pigs, the Vietnam War building up, and movements like the Black Panthers demanding civil rights then.

Yes, there will ALWAYS be nutballs who want to pull these sorts of stunts. The key though is when there are internal "wars" of conspiracies going on within the government, and suddenly "conveniently" the secret service pulls back from protecting the president, which is what the video/film footage of JFK's motorcade seemed to show, amongst other things, that's when things like this happen. And usually there are other agendas going than just the nutball in question wanting to take out someone he doesn't like as president.

Normally I think the SS does a good job of keeping these nutballs at bay and not able to carry out their plans. It's when they or others involved in the government get compromised in stuff like this that I get worried.

16. Well, he was about to revamp CIA, pull troops out of Viet Nam,
was putting out feelers to Castro and to the Soviet. You bet there was tension there. Perhaps not that the public could feel except the nutcase segregationists, but there was plenty of tension in the government.

13. And for those who say "nah, they wouldn't do that to Bush now!", you have to wonder about Ken Lay!
With Ken Lay, there are so many possibilities of who was involved, who really got killed and whether it really was a coincidence of his time coming or something else going on. But it shows that if it was something "engineered", that likely the forces behind the scenes wouldn't even stop at killing Bush if they felt it would take care of the rest of them somehow!

14. and are you really dead when you're dead if you're Ken Lay?

These people can "die" without the pain and inconvenience of actually being dead.

17. There's always some peckerwood
who just needs a little encouragement and covert help from some 'person of influence' to initiate an incident.

It happens all the time, usually to some poor unknown person who just happened to get crossways with the boys.

Karen Silkwood was a good example.

18. The "Gude" name is an old and well established family in Maryland
I'm curious if this kid is a direct benefactor of that family.

Gilbert Gude was a member of the US House. He was a Republican, but an active environmentalist. He died a year ago.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/08/AR2007060802707.html

The Gude name pops up all over Montgomery County Maryland.
