The New Republic Debunks Paris Hilton’s Policy Plans!
Edited on Wed Aug-06-08 05:03 PM by tannybogus
Important news from the Wonkette Inbox(!): “Today on TNR.com, Dayo Olopade offers the definitive fact-check of Paris Hilton’s energy recommendations in her new ‘campaign’ video. While Hilton’s video is perhaps a humorous response to McCain’s recent ‘celebrity’ ad featuring her likeness, Olopade concludes that even Paris, alas, gets the facts wrong on offshore drilling.” While this seems like the perfect setup for a Rick Roll, or a blinking screen that says “No Shit,” Mr. Olopade did, in fact, write this article challenging Paris Hilton’s claims. What’s next? Jamie Kirchick’s imaginary response?

Fact-Checking...Paris Hilton...on Drilling

I write this in full knowledge that I am fanning the flames of this distracting devolution into the realm of actual celebrities--but as long as millions of people are going to be listening to Paris Hilton on energy (far more than might have tuned in for McCain's remarks here or Obama's here), and because this is important stuff--we may as well run it through the Vine fact-checker....

In reality, experts--and McCain adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin--repeatedly acknowledge that it would take 5-10 years for any tangible effects of offshore drilling to take hold; new oil production would only amount to 1 percent (200,000 barrels) of projected US demand when it does become available; and if new oil in 2015 or so could lower the price of gasoline, it would only do so by a few cents.

1. Well, I guess anything that reinforces the message...
...that offshore drilling is a stupid idea is a good thing, especially if it gets the celeb-addled masses to pay attention for a nanosecond.

3. Folks if McCains surrogates are spending time and money
trying to refute Paris Hiltons commercial then lets give Paris a pat on the back.

This is just more money and time McCain is wasting.
