His worst fear came true, family of Decatur soldier angrily says

By CRAIG SCHNEIDER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Sgt. Victor Langarica was gung ho about the war effort after the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, said family members.

...

As the war effort turned more toward Iraq, he turned more against the war effort. And when he was called to return to Iraq last summer, he did not want to go. He feared he'd die, for no good reason, his mother said.

...

His mother is more than grieving — she is bitter. She has lost faith in this war and sees her son's death as senseless. Pearl Lucas recalled that after her son was recalled to Iraq last August, he returned for a short leave in November. She held Thanksgiving dinner a week early, but the family could not bring much gladness out of him.

"He told me, 'Mom, I don't think I'm going to make it back. Things are so bad, worse than they show on the news,' " his mother recalled.

She said she told him, "I am going to be a very angry mother if you don't make it back."

She reminded him he had two young children to raise. But in her heart, she said, she believed him.

...

She said she spoke to him Friday, for the last time. His 6-year-old daughter, Devina, picked up the phone and told her father she wanted him home soon.

"He was weeping like crazy," his mother said.

Like a lot of parents who have lost children in Iraq, Pearl Lucas is angry at Bush.

"He is the one who killed my son," she said of the president. "There is nothing he can tell me to make me feel better."

1. "Just a number," and yet another funeral Bush won't attend
If there was a God, he'd make Bush dig every grave...

10. or sit in any ward of any Army Hospital with the 22,000 wounded that are coming back
with no legs, arms, brain injuries, and numerous other injuries. Let this sick sick coward sit there and look at what he has done to these vibrant young American people.

2. That's odd
The story says that there are "a lot of parents" who are "angry at Bush." I got the distinct impression from the major media coverage that Cindy Sheehan was the only one, and she could be ignored because she was female and maybe even deranged. There are a lot of other folks angry at Bush? Who knew? All I ever see are all the men and women in uniform clapping enthusiastically, and smiling like the peasants in a Maoist documentary.

13. That's what we're all supposed to think,
that all gold star mothers are honored that their son or daughter died for freedom, with the lone exception, Cindy Sheehan.

15. There's also a lot of maimed and wounded vets
who feel the same way about *! My Grandaughter works at Bethesda Naval Hospital. She said many, many soldiers close their doors, and want nothing to do with him, on his few visits to the injured!! She will be leaving for Kuwait by mid Feb. She's just finished her training as a Naval Corpsman.

I wonder how many families of the fallen are advised the same thing?
I would bet more often than not.

They don't want us to see what war really looks like.

19. Bush and any of those other bastards that lied all need
to be held accountable.... And I also say those who have done nothing to prevent this war from continuing are culpable as well in my book... That could of just as easily been me and my son and I get mad as hell when I see this....

20. "worse than they show on the news..."
Since Bush has admitted the war ain't going so well, I've noticed less whining on the right about how the "media" is only showing the bad news. But I rarely hear anyone say it's worse than we see on the news. For that we have to get a quote from a slain soldier.

Unfortunately, sometimes it takes the death of a loved one for them to realize the mess we're in. My prayers are with the family.
