Jerry Lewis caught with a gun at Las Vegas Airport

http://www.kvbc.com/Global/story.asp?S=8753986

Comedian and film icon Jerry Lewis is caught with an unloaded gun at McCarran airport.

Police say the 82-year-old was taking a Northwest Airlines flight to Detroit Friday when the gun was discovered in his carry-on bag. Lewis told Metro he forgot he had placed the gun in his bag.

Officers confiscated the 22-caliber Beretta and cited Lewis for having a concealed weapon without a permit.

Lewis was allowed to take his flight.

2. Hmm. The Frenchurian Candidate?
All the fawning over him in Paris always made my skin tingle. Didn't seem right.

Now we know.

7. take a look at this...
Paris, France -- Prime Minister Lionel Jospin proclaimed March 8th to be a national holiday honoring comedian Jerry Lewis. "I encourage all my fellow Frenchmen to act foolish all day long by making funny faces and silly noises." said Jospin.

In addition to having his own National Holiday, Jerry Lewis was awarded one of France's highest and most distinguished honors the French Legion of Honor in 1984.

Mr. Lewis is "worshipped" by many in France as a sort of comic deity. In fact, Many Parisian residents have small plaster statues of the "Nutty Professor" in their gardens. Residents of Alsace, it is said, prefer bronze statues of the "Geisha Boy".

In a recent survey of French school children, 81% said they wanted to be like Jerry Lewis when they grow up. Only 7% said they wanted to be like French philosopher Voltaire.

USA Celebrates Jerry Lewis Day Too

Mr. Bush's
Jerry Lewis Impersonation.

Washington, DC -- Not to be out done by the French, George W. Bush proclaimed that March 8th would be a national holiday honoring Jerry Lewis in the United States too. "Shoot. We can act more goofy than those snooty French bastards any day!" said Mr. Bush.

3. Sounds like the police took the right action
However, had it been a plumber with brown skin and a "funny" name, instead of Jerry Lewis, I can't help feeling the outcome would have been somewhat different.

5. Very odd that he doesn't have a concealed weapons permit
He is a resident of Nevada, which is a "shall-issue" state.

8. I got caught with a pocketknife in my purse at the airport in Milwaukee
a couple of years ago. They confiscated it. It was a beautiful walnut and brass knife, and I had had it for 25 or 30 years. Forgot to stow it in the suitcase........

I'm probably lucky they didn't Gitmo-ize me for it.

27. For objects like yours they should have mailing evenlopes
at the Security check areas and allow someone to fill it out and mail it themselves. But of course they make money selling your knife.

13. one of my favorite dean & jerry stories-
as told to me by a friend who was WAY into them-
back when they were an act, they'd travel a lot by train...and dean-o would get insomnia. jerry was a bit of a druggie, even back then...and on one trip when dean couldn't sleep he went to jerry's coachroom and asked him for something to help him sleep. being 'funny' jerry gives him speed. and dean comes back an hour later asking for more because it wasn't working...and jerry obliged. i guess that's the kind of stuff that eventually broke them up.

14. They were great together. They did the good cop, bad cop routine
Dean always let Jerry handle the business end and would go off playing golf because he knew that Jerry would be tougher with producers than he would be. It worked, too. Eventually though Dean tired of being considered just a straight man and wanted to move off on his own. I think they both did well because of this. Dean became a star in his own right and Jerry was able to do the writing/producing/directing of his own films he wanted.

25. Jerry Lewis cast as a totally humorless person, Robert DeNiro as a psychotic wannabe comic
Sandra Berhnard as an obsessive fan. What more could you ask for?

I love the scene where she has Jerry Langford (Jerry Lewis) duct-taped to a chair up to his nostrils and torments him.

23. He actually was suffering from pulmonary fibrosis for a few years and took steroids which
caused him to gain a great deal of weight, but he is much slimmer now and looks better, according to a recent newspaper photo I saw.

Otherwise, he'd be dead, or in the process of being tortured right now.
