To the Editor,

The latest revelations about the poor treatment our wounded soldiers and veterans get are reprehensible. It’s hard to tell where to start to fix the system, as it has been allowed to decay for so long. Underfunding, private contractors, and low-balling disability ratings have all contributed to the decline in care. I feel it is important to point out one common denominator in all this. The Veteran's Administration budget is funded by Congress. Up until two months ago, the Congress had been lead by the Republican Party for the last 12 years. Our Senators Hutchison and Cornyn have both been highlighted by veterans groups (namely IAVA and DAV) as voting against the interests of Veterans, receiving respective grades of D+ and D-. Joe Barton did a little better — he received a “C.” These elected representatives have not had our veterans’ best interests at heart and the results are finally being dealt with. Those of you Republicans who wear your patriotism on your sleeve — this is how you support our troops?

1. Thank you for your efforts
conservatives just wonder why injured Soldiers whine so much. They should just go home and take care of themselves.

3. Thank you for your unending efforts.
As one who spent a little time at Walter Reed USAMC many moons ago, I am proud to be even peripherally associated with such a dedicated and unyielding spirit.

4. I am committed to writing a letter a week until our troops come home-
and committed to educating my neighbors about the hypocritical "support our troops" Republicans.

5. So incredibly sad
that any American has to be educated on this tragedy. The flag wavers are incredibly high maintenance, low value. They do not add value to our country.

8. Isn't John Cornyn up for re-election in 2008? Let's use this to remove the fucker from office.
He deserves at least that much.

To the Editor,

I was appalled to see a full-page department store advertisement of a woman in her undergarments in Sunday’s newspaper. We do not have the Internet or even a television because we do not want evil influences in our home, yet the pornography came in anyway via your newspaper advertising insert. During our years of subscribing to the paper, I have seen times when two or three of the family have been eagerly waiting in line to read the paper, enjoy the comics or work a crossword puzzle. Although we have thoroughly enjoyed your newspaper, we are contemplating canceling our subscription after seeing that ad.

Maybe you could deliver some papers without advertisements to people like us who desire to protect our children. Or better yet, maybe you could screen the ads and let others know that you are a people of integrity who will not allow them to air their filth in your newspaper.

Mrs. Charles E. Arnold Jr.,

Waxahachie
