Bob Barr Made A Very Important Point Regarding The Need For Impeachment
He said that each succeeding administration regards what the previous administration has done as the floor not the ceiling. This is why, as has been pointed out numerous times on DU, it was a travesty not to follow through on Nixon and to let Raygun get off scot free with Iran Contra. We would not be where we are today if those administrations had suffered the full consequences for what they had done.

As has also been pointed out, the world has turned upside down when a DUer is positively quoting Bob Barr.

1. Barr is a fellow card carrying ACLU "communist."
He is a troglodyte on women's rights and the economy, but he is on the side of the constitution in most other matters.

He is absolutely correct that impeachment is needed to reset the system of checks and balances. Without it, we'll continue to go down the road to dictatorship.

3. Hey, I live in Ga. and I detest most of Barr's positions, but he was right
on the impeachment issue. What Shrub is allowed to get away with will be the floor, and will have set precident for every future president!

4. Yep.
This was one of the points that DUers have noted for years.

Nominated.

15. I'm under the impression
that today is not the end of this. The reaction of some of the republicans signaled that they are aware of this, too.

5. The Problem Is The Nature Of How Each Party Views Power
Yes, he's right, the old saying is once you give a power to the government, you never get it back. It's more the question of how its used. The problem is that between a corporate media that's gonna remain in the bag for their big money patrons and a repugnican party that has no scrupples...a Democrat attempting to go above and beyond like this regime has will be attacked ruthlessly.

The question I have is the stomache and determination that some Democrats will have in not wanting to "move along". When I heard Rob Wexler and Dennis Kucinich this morning, I can't think they're gonna just let all that's happened slip into the night. Let's hope this hearing is seen by every Democrat and starts the spine stiffening that is long overdue.

6. Yeah Barr ...
...he proves that it is important to listen for the Truth with a capitol "T" no matter where it comes from.

Another thing to point out, which I wish someone would: Because nobody was held accountable during Iran-Contra, the same people involved in that are now in power and THEY are the ones responsible for even worse crimes that have devastated entire countries in South America and now in the Middle East.

They are cheap, greedy CRIMINALS in fancy suits, that is all they are and since they went scott free then, they think it is fine to continue to do what they are now.

In other words if they don't pay, they're gonna continue the play.

9. If Bush and Cheney aren't held accountable
the damage done to our "democracy" will be irreparable.

I don't care if it's impeachment (which I'd LOVE to see BTW, Nancy) or an investigation or truth commission or whatever after Bush and Cheney leave office with subsequent prosecution when the facts of what this administration has "accomplished" come out. If Bush and Cheney aren't held liable for their myriad crimes then this so-called "democracy" of ours is finished, kaput, over, period -- because every succeeding chief executive will know they have nothing to fear, not even fear itself.

But I agree with him. Damn, George Bush and I used the same metaphor yesterday. One more thing like this and, gee, I don't know. Do I have to tombstone myself?
