1. RIP, Jo.
I grew up litening to her, and I just started listening to XM Radio "Fifties"... good to hear her again.

But this is like losing an old friend., so I'm very sad.

Thanks for posting the sad news.

2. That woman never missed a note. Thank you, Ms Stafford.
Life gets curious, Mac.

Earlier today, I was thinking about you and your Mother, wondering how you are doing.

And tonight, you post this.

Life is certainly curious, sometimes.

Tom

3. You Belong to Me......
You Belong To Me

-the # 1 version by Jo Stafford in 1952 was unavailable for transcription so
-here is a later version
-Artists: The Duprees (peak Billboard position # 7 in 1962)
-Previously charted in 1952 by Patti Page (# 4) and Dean Martin (# 12)
-Words and music by Pee Wee King, Chilton Price, and Redd Stewart (BMI)

See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sun rise on a tropic isle
Just remember, darling, all the while
You belong to me.

See the marketplace in old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
But remember when a dream appears
You belong to me.

I’ll be so alone without you
Maybe you’ll be lonesome too---and blue

Fly the ocean in a silver plane
Watch the jungle when it’s wet with rain
Just remember till you’re home again
You belong to me

4. Now, that's sad. I loved Jo Stafford. I hope her life was filled with
good things for the simple joy she gave us all. RIP, Jo - you were one of the best.

5. She was one half of the genius that was Jonathan and Darlene Edwards.
It takes musicians of the highest caliber to butcher songs the way only they could.

6. Are you talking about
Edited on Fri Jul-18-08 09:16 PM by KT2000
the album that had "I Love Paris in the Springtime???" (sung flat)
The unfinished glissandos and fadeouts?

The funniest thing - Several years ago I had to have medical treatments and a man who also had treatments at the same time had played bass on that album. He said they had to put hankerchiefs in their mouths to keep from laughing on the tracks. He has since passed but he brought me a tape of the album since the original album was lost.
I think it was Jo Stafford's husband (not sure though) had died and this man said that they all had the best lives - they had lots of fun and loved what they were doing. I bet it was the same for Jo Stafford.

My mother used to play it and never failed to mention - it takes a good musician to do what they are doing. It was a happy part of my childhood.

Thanks for the reminder.

11. Yep, that's the one.
I think you can find a two volume "best of" CD set on Amazon.

Great party album.

Their version of "Carioca" was used during the credits for "Kentucky Fried Movie".

10. OMG - I remember that! My brother said he had something he wanted me to hear, and he made me listen
to the whole album. It wasn't so over the top that you knew right away; she would slide up
to the note and then not quite make it. Truly awful and hilarious!

Thanks for reminding me.
