It's time to deliver the death blow.
Every boxer and every soldier with any real experience is familiar with this moment. The enemy is battered and bloodied. The fight has been epic and relentless. Exhaustion has overtaken both sides. Breath comes heavy and hard, the battle is nearly over, and victory is at hand. The enemy is on his back, or against the ropes. His eyes are swelled half shut and he wobbles on his feet. Or he lies before you in the mud, injured but still reaching for his weapon.

The time has come to finish the job.

The criminal neo-con cabal running America has held nearly continuous political power since rising from the swamp of American politics in the immediate post-Watergate era. They weren't born then, but they emerged from the shadows and firmly seized the reigns of power in that period of chaos and change. Since then, with only brief interruption, they have menaced and held hostage the American Republic and have brought it quite literally to death's door. The Bush/Cheney administration is merely the latest morphing of the same scum-creature that brought us most, if not all of the scandals and political crimes of the last 30 years. The litany is nearly endless and most aware Americans could list pages of filth. We all know this.

Many of us have been fighting this beast for many years. We have seen blows delivered and felt the counter-blows. We have seen elections come and go - won, lost and stolen. We have seen prosecutions and imprisonments - on both sides. We have witnessed the battle ebb and flow. We have seen riots and vigils and lies and lies and lies. And sooo much death, abroad and also at home. But most disturbingly, we have seen the vile creature rise to it's feet, time after time, delivered from the jaws of defeat.

The beast was knocked silly at the end of the Reagan years. The light of truth was briefly shown into the gutter of the evil cabal. Investigations moved forward, some criminals meet with conviction. Doors were slowly creaking open. The enemy was on his back. Iran Contra led to BCCI, which led to more, which led to more... and then... we relented.

After all, why kick your enemy when he's down? Aren't we better than that? Why finish the job? Why expose the delicate sensibilities of "the people" to such nastiness? Better to forgive and forget - to move on in the spirit of togetherness and compassion. And of hope. So our fine leaders holstered their weapons and galloped away - nary a hair disturbed on their delicate heads.

And then.. the beast rose again. The very same filthy creature - reborn and revitalized, like Jason from Halloween, the knife pulled from it's gut and blood dripping from it's lips. Stronger and more evil than ever. And how so many times, these last eight years, have so many wished the final blow had been delivered when the chance was before us. But we were weak. We moved on.

We now have the chance again. We can drive the stake into the heart of this ugly relentless fascist murdering creature that has menaced our freedom for so many years. This time we can really kill the damn thing, look it in it's cold empty eyes and pull the trigger.

Dennis Kucinich and John Conyers have opened the door to the lair. The weapons are in our hands. The Beast is gurgling and hissing and stinking the stink of near-death. We can and must finish this job. We must reach deep inside and do what we have to do.

Deliver the death blow. Impeach and imprison these bastards. Obama will only gain more strength from the death of this beast. And our Republic simply cannot bear it's rebirth yet again.

Finish it. Show no mercy and finish it now.

3. There may be some who justifiably fear that this particular beast has fangs and claws.
Think the conjuring up of another terrorist event is impossible? Think it would be a hard sell to the American people as a whole to attack Iran however loosely they might be connected depending upon how heinous the terrorist event may be? How about the finger on the nuclear button? How about the paranoia about marshal law? There may certainly be some who recognize that a cornered beast is dangerous and that there will be a new president in January.

It pretty easy for all of us anonymous DUers to get all noble and righteously indignant here. We don't know all there is to be known or all that our representatives may know, so it is easy for us to say full speed ahead and everybody to the Hague. I'm not saying it is necessarily a bad idea, I am saying to consider all the possibilities first. It's easy to sacrifice others for our own ideals. Bush does it all the time.

5. Your post smells like fear.
The beast feeds on that.

If we do not kill it, it WILL rise again. We must strike while it's weak. Yes, it may have some final wickedness up it's sleeve, but must face it head on, or we will regret our weakness and fear for many dark years.

25. It's easier to capitulate and do nothing.
We've seen the consequences of the politics of the chickenshits. If our Democratic leaders had even the tiniest measure of courage they would've destroyed these pigs in 1992. But they are cowards. And so we've had the pleasure of eight years of Bush. Nice job of "considering the consequences" that was.

87. We've already, repeatedly, experienced the consequences of not
going for the kill. Starting with the pardon of Nixon by his criminal cohort Ford, we have allowed them to keep coming back, when they should have been at the least banished from politics if not imprisoned.

The consequences of failing to act are proved to be far worse than the consequences of retaliation by the other side.

Clinton backed off on prosecuting BCCI and Iran/Contra - he reward was impeachment by the same criminals he saved.

The other side has no scruples about using overpowering force to get what they want, and they never hesitate to kick an opponent who is down, by any means necessary.

It is to be noted that the only means necessary to OUR side is the law. Prosecute the criminals, and let the LAW deal with it.

that these people (neo-cons) must not be allowed back in to polite society.

Remember that Rummy, Perle, Poppy Bush, Cheney, et al were the nasty, molded left overs from the Nixon era.

If we don't AT THE LEAST, shame them into exile, they will find homes in think tanks, and other institutions until...maybe 10 years down the road, they turn up in some other criminal administration.

They will be back.

edit to add

They have younger disciples now (John Yoo, and all those twits from Liberty and Regent U)

It's the gift that keeps on giving...

players. Prescott Bush and George Herbert Walker were key conduits for Wall Street's support of the Italian Fascists and German National Socialist regimes. Prescott was to be the chief liaison with the Hitler regime in the event that the 1934 Coup attempt against FDR succeeded.

Bush was Hitler's American Banker, and the designated American liaison to the Third Reich, according to Harpers. See,"1934: The Plot Against America" by Scott Horton (Harper's Magazine)Jul 28, 2007 ... It appears that Bush was to have formed a key liaison for the group with the new German government. Prescott Bush, of course, ...

The Bush boys are the true Boys from Berlin.

FDR should have had the coup plotters rounded up and prosecuted for treason and sedition after the Banker's coup was exposed in 1934 by Gen. Smedley Butler. If stern measures had had been taken then, the bankroll that built the international Fascist movement would have been cut off.

No lesson learned then. So, America is still grappling with fascists today.

Some are just chickenshits. Same with the media. But if we can embolden enough of the chickenshits, the collaborators may be drawn along by the tide. It will take public pressure on the right chickenshits, and then it will take the right chickenshits in the media to act as well. It's not impossible, just daunting. We are closer now than ever before. No fear!

18. No. We have to get out of the mind-set that "they" will do anything..
anything on their own that is.

Look it is up to us, you n me and anyone and everyone we can drag along with us.
We must call, write, email, RELENTLESSLY and encourage all we know to do the same thing. Call, not one time and say, well I did my part and that's all I can do. Not once a week, or once a day. HELL why not call them multiple times in a day.

Once they finally get a clue that we're pissed and we're not going to take it anymore and we damn sure are not going away... then perhaps they will FINALLY muster up some courage and slay this beast.

It's OUR country and I'm so sick of the shit and I want it back and in better condition than ever. I want the entrails of this monster eviscerated and left to rot in the brightest of light and sunshine, once and for all and for all to see.

It's up to US, You n Me

As long as our country has a population made up of idiots and people who simply don't care..we will never fix what is broken.

"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion." -Thomas Jefferson

You can start by isolating the people who still support the destruction of our nation, don't treat them as equals, don't treat them with respect...no matter who they are..they don't deserve shit.

If you are showing respect to the very people who support the destruction of our Constitution...then you have already failed your nation.

life woud be good, housing prices are low, taxes are low......people spend money there....

The republican base remains. and will surface at a later date to bring us the next Bush/Reagan/Nixon.

And we will act as if .."If we could just get rid of this leader we will be alright"

If you haven't noticed, Nixon was the worst till Reagan ...and then Bush sr. was worse than Reagan...and finally Bush jr. beat them all.

Things are not getting better ...the republican base is NOT moving to the center, they are getting more radical every election cycle.

26. But the Republican base only has power
if we cede it to them, as the Democrats continue to do. They are not a majority in this country.

Sure, we need to change how Americans think about many many things.. or we are certainly doomed. But that is a long range project. In the short run it is imperative that we hold the current criminals accountable. It's actually a part of the process of changing how people think about the role of American leadership. The two are tied together. Simply undertaking an impeachment effort will help educate people and inform their thinking about the democratic process.

37. It's an extremely important beginning, a vital one
but don't forget that this greed and domination reaches from the Bush family throughout their CIA ties and contacts/businessmen in other countries, including the Saudis, Kuwaitis, UAE, etc. The people are everywhere, but the problem is always the same- selfishness beyond consideration of the needs of others.

We can work to solve these problems, and to remain on the lookout for it symptoms. This current manifestation provides us a great deal of knowledge regarding the tactics and agenda of such utter selfishness.

There are two faces to negativity- the obvious, which is destruction, rage, and hate. The latter, which these people have not achieved, is to mask one's self in the sweetest possible accoutremont, and through bad advice, to trick people into damaging and destroying themselves, or to become dependent and enslaved. The decision always has to be of one's own free will, which is why the down side of the deal must always be hidden. You catch more flies with honey.

You can usually spot them via a single, out-of-context statement regarding power, enslavement, etc.

He will be termed out in a few months.

President Obama will appoint a new Cabinet, a new Justice Department, and a flock of new judges, including some on the Supreme Court. He'll reinstate the Constitution, end the unjust war in Iraq, and (fingers crossed, here) bring us closer to universal health care.

Things are not nearly as grim as y'all are saying. If delusions of persecution persist, see a physician.

And what if this next hearing does lead to impeachment? Also, just because he has only six months is still no reason not to act. Like others have said on here, just electing Obama will not stop the villains from coming back in the future. It will only allow them to regroup and come back again bigger and badder than ever. The future is whatever we want it to be.

What the Dems are afraid of is their own involvement with the illegal bush programs, not that holding a scoundrel accountable will lead to a popular sympathetic reaction.

By your logic no bank robber or drug dealer should be brought to justice and prosecuted, lest a large segment of the populace should become sympathetic and vote to legalize bank robbery and drug houses.

62. Impeach And These People Will Get A Walk. Send To Haag, And ...
.
USA will end up in a civil war. Some choice 'we the people' are presented.

Should any one actually get shrub and Co. to the Senate to be impeached, there is absolutely _no_ chance of getting the Senate to convict! This is just reality of the world. The corporate masters who run the political system will never allow impeachment proceedings to end in a conviction of shrub, Cheney or any other of the A-list GOP war criminals.

Should the next administration taking office in January 2009, actually do the right thing by having shrub and Co. arrested and rendered to the Haag, Netherlands to be tried by the International Court of Justice then the USA would burst into civil war.

Once shrub begins issuing pardons, the war criminals will be beyond US law. The RW hardly recognize the rule of law within USA. The next president is not going to risk everything for the sake of doing the right thing.

Regardless,

No pardons, no immunity, no amnesty
Off To The Haag with them.

106. Civil war?
All for it. They walk with a slap on the wrist from weak impeachment proceedings or they go to the Hague and the streets explode? Gimme civil war for 200.00$ Alex! It's been the Have's, The Have More's, and the Have a Whoooole Lot More Than Anyone Else's stomping on the rest of us for too goddamn long. I believe in my country. I'll die for it. Will they die to preserve their lives of greed, corruption and theft? Some will, but there's one little thing they always overlook when they piss on the little guy for too long. That's the fact that there's a lot more little guys than there are bigshots.
Here's a swell example of a guy who thought his control would last forever:

See, people?
Nicolae Ceauşescu, one of the most brutal dictators around, and when the people of Romania grew a spine, they crushed him like bug he was. If the United States ever grows a set of cajones, our bad guys will run like the chickenshits they truly are. Sure some of them will fight, but if we are a truly UNITED STATES, these scum will lose.

And to the guy that had the guts to tell people to STFU if they're sipping their lattes from Dunkin Donuts, RIGHT ON, BROTHER!
Don't be bullshitted by baubles and trivialities, these criminal douchebags RELY on you being happy with a fucking latte and a new cellphone that plays music so you'll overlook their theft of our country and the torching of our Constitution!!!
Grow a spine you cowardly shits! Do without your toys, stand up and be an American and say NO MORE!!!! Things weren't exactly ugly when the good guys were in charge, were they? Seems the post WW2 boom was pretty damn good for this country, wasn't it? We sacrificed, struggled and scrimped and saved, and we got the good times to enjoy it all, we just had to wait for it.

I found this yesterday..."When the representative body have lost the confidence of their constituents, when they have notoriously made sale of their most valuable rights, when they have assumed to themselves powers which the people never put into their hands, then, indeed, their continuing in office becomes dangerous to the State, and calls for an exercise of the power of dissolution." --Thomas Jefferson: Rights of British America, 1774.

69. Please don't recommend this post if...
...you have a Dunkin' Donuts coffee in your hand.
Why do I say that? Because there is really only one way to "deliver the death blow" to this beast.

WE MUST STOP GIVING IT OUR MONEY!!!

Impeachment, conviction, war crimes tribunals, incarceration... that is all well and good, necessary and will certainly help mitigate the problem. But it won't, by any means, deal a death blow. These cockroaches are like any others - for every one that you step on, there are a thousand more behind the baseboards. The ONLY way to completely rid yourself of the problem is to cut of their food source. This is true of reptiles too. With these reptiles, their food source is money, and we feed them every time we patronize one of their companies. Every dollar WE spend that profits them, is another bit of power that they will use to exploit us. Every time WE borrow their money and pay it back with interest, is another bit of wealth that is created that, for the most part, goes into our enemy's pockets. They use that wealth to fuck us and then we ask for more.

It's easy as hell to laugh at "republican low information voters" who constantly seem to "vote against their own interests." Yeah, that's fun, isn't it? However, if you're laughing at them with a Dunkin' Donuts coffee in your hand, then you are just as much of a sucker as they are. We constantly... every single fucking day of the year, vote against our interests using our credit cards.

I've been saying this for years and years now, and seemingly intelligent people just don't seem to care. People love to bitch and moan about impeachment and how horrible THEY are, and then turn around and buy another one of their baubles, watch another one of their propaganda shows for profit, and then borrow their money from them in order to get airline miles.

Would you all please finally wake the fuck up and realize that impeachment is a feel-good band-aid that will do no good in the long run, unless we cut off what nourishes, and will continue to nourish this beast?

This post is going to sink like a rock, like all the other posts where I say these things. Doing what I suggest would actually take some thought and some work, and Americans, and maybe all humans, are largely incapable of doing that. Being cautious about what you buy and who you buy it from? I know about three other people who think in those terms, and there are probably a handful on this board who do so as well. It takes vigilance, and vigilance just ain't as much fun as yelling at Tweety on the TV.

Enjoy your coffee!!!

Well, that's a serious blow to progress, no question. An Obama presidency would demonstrate clearly the difference between the democrats' governing philosophy and the radical right-wing philosophy we are suffering under now. If he loses, that's a huge lost opportunity. Same goes for the Congress.

100. it is odd in the movies
You're in the Maple Avenue hut, at Camp Jasonkilledit, Halloween 1983 when Freddie shows up and gives all your horny shallow friends a haircut from the collar bones up.

You discover the bodies, run down the street screaming and flapping your arms like a one winged chicken in a farting contest.

You get in the truck, magically start the stalling ignition, then mow Freddie's ass down all rumble bumble jumble under the wheels, and leave his hat-wearin' ass in the street looking flatter than three old beer. Freddie gets up, gasps and staggers two feet, then stumbles over his liver and falls off hoover dam. Presumably dead, therefore the innocent virginal virtuous heroine gets back in the stolen truck and only then notices Freddie sitting in the back seat. Ree ree ree.

And the moral of the story is:

If you didn't personally feed that monster through the wood chipper, one part at a time, and shoot the grease and bonechips out through a flamethrower over Niagara falls, DO NOT turn your back on Freddie and walk away.

A rare case where some silly fantasy intersects our reality, and it gets proven over and over again. If you're going to bother fighting monsters, be sure to make sure they stay dead.
