Why does the media love Obama so much
Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 03:04 PM by BL611
Why does this insider stock trader who attends a racist church (but is still not really "black") and has no experience or record on the issues whatsoever, get such adoring coverage from the media?:sarcasm:

1. C-Span carried the very-cold February presidential campaign declaration
Edited on Wed Mar-07-07 03:13 PM by Old Crusoe
speech of Sen. Obama.

I watched the faces in the audience. The town square was bundled up against the winter but their faces were rapt with attention and awe. The speech itself was very, very good. I understand their attention and awe, their willingness to brave cold temps to stand outside and listen.

This man is already popular. He's going to be more popular still.

2. At least you not attacking other Democrats, just this one.
Do you prefer the candidate that has been a senator for 6 years, the one who was a senator for 6 years, the one who has never been a politician or someone else rather than the guy who has been a senator for 2 years?

3. LOL! I was wondering if it was just me....

The republicans want Hillary or Obama to be the nominee...I'm convinced...

Edwards, though not my first choice... However, I do like him and Edwards would indeed kick ass...

The republicans always (through their media and smears) seem to get the weakest Dem candidate...even Clinton a great & skilled politician, lucked out running against two stiffs in Bush & Dole, as well as having Ross Perot in the mix. Gore wasn't a particularly strong candidate (back then) but was running against another stiff in W ....as was another weak Dem John Kerry, as opposed to a Howard Dean who wouldn't of put up with half the shit Kerry did...

Going back; Gary Hart was the stronger candidate than Mondale (but the bimbo smear did him in) ...Then comes Dukakis? Give me a break! The republicans it seems always get their man, Obama? (Or in this case their woman, Hillary).

4. Umm the OP was SARCASTIC
hence the dripping sarcasm. My point was that Obama gets smeared by the media as much if not more than anyone else. If not sure if you were reacting in a sarcastic way to my sarcasm, but if not, I seriously disagree.

9. I suppose so
Umm maybe then I should make the argument sarcasm free: Barack Obama is not loved by the media, there are constantly completely unsubstantiated claims about him put out in the media such as today's stock trade story, that his church is black separatist church, that he is not well liked in the black community, and that he has no experience or record as a public servant, not to mention Fox News' insinuation that he is a terrorist. Doesn't seem like the media is "pushing" him to me...

11. I think the GOP is scared to death of an Obama nomination
First of all, it enthuses black voters in the south in a way that is unimaginable to them. The GOP base has nowhere to go but down in the south. Conservatives vote as regular as rain. That means they are not going to find new voters to turn out particularly with the legacy of Iraq

Secondly, a 25% increase in black voter turnout would overwhelm their capacity to cheat particularly in major metropolitan areas where there is strong black political infrastructure.

Third Obama does not have a long legislative record to attack. This is no doubt owed in part to the fact that the Senate has voted for so little during his tenure. Plus the fact that any attack that appears to attack his ethnicity is going radicalize the election not only in the SOuth but also in Swing states like VA, Arkansas, Maine and Ohio. They do not dare do that in order to protect the southern Flank which while vulnerable is still largely monolithic.

Finally, there is another factor at play and that is the white atonement factor. There are a few million white southerners who want to move past the image of the old south. They recognize that Obama is smart, savvy, credible and to put it bluntly is not anything like Jesse or Al Sharpton. Obama presents to them an opportunity for atonement for the sins of their parents and forbears.

If Obama is allowed by the black establishment and white fundraisers to continue down his present path He assuredly wins the nomination and I think stalemates the GOP in the south and thereby picks up Ohio, Florida and Virginia.

12. In the Alabama where I reside...
...attacking Obama's ethnicity wouldn't harm the GOP whatsoever. There is A LOT of subliminal and unstated racism rampant here that keeps loyal conservatives glued to the right wing.

Your "white atonement factor" is negligible as those people--a bigger minority than you realize--are already considered "pinkos" down here and wouldn't be voting for the GOP anyway.

Obama's skin color and his the Arabic ring of his name is enough to knock him out of any race in the South. For a Dem to win the South, he's going to have to be a white Southern male. Anything else scares too many folks.
