I choked talking to repug
he was blaming everything on the nations entitlement programs. I said well what's with having 8 years of a republican administration and we are in deficit. He used the old, how long does it take to get a program up and running? (basically the ole' blame the president before the current one)... I choked and nothing was said..ugh! I'm sorry I didn't have entitlement program data in my mind.

off to research in case it ever comes up again

to punch the repug in the throat as hard as you can. Let them choke while you gather your thoughts.

Good luck with your next political argument.

7. That's a HORRIBLE reply!
I find it much better to wrap your hands around their throats and squeeze (like a stess ball) while gathering your thoughts.

9. There's also the trusty
"Your mother's a HOOR!" argument. Most of them can't argue against that.

4. Hasn't Bush severely reduced/cut back on those 'entitlement programs'?
(Not to mention funding for the FAA, veterans, etc.)

If he hasn't actually, tell that to the Repug anyway. Make up shit. He won't know the difference.

6. well
you know it did make me think though. If Obama wins the presidency and things go well, we are going to here... he is doing well only because of Bush... because of the whole it takes years for things to go in effect when you are president.

11. Which entitlements is he talking about?
The practically non-existent ones for welfare and social services to the poor? Or the massive welfare subsidy that is going to Halliburton and a handful of other companies? Tell him if he really cares about entitlements he should pressure his representatives to end cost-plus no-bid contracts and other abuses.

12. Use Oreo cookies to easily explain Pentagon budget of $541 Billion
Edited on Sun Jul-13-08 02:48 PM by OMomma
http://www.truemajority.org/oreos/

In the video, you will see just how little money Domestic social and entitlement programs have been getting in comparison to the Military budget. Also, explain to this person that we are paying every Iraqi household $300.00 per month using U.S. Tax payer money, and Afghan warlords being payed off with money and weapons. Talk about privatized warfare:
http://www.usnews.com/articles/news/world/2008/07/11/afghan-warlords-formerly-backed-by-the-cia-now-turn-their-guns-on-us-troops.html

Pentagon handing out corporate entitlements:
http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/89432/

The Military and it's contractors have always been the greatest beneficiaries of taxpayer money.

*edited again, to correct wording and update heading to new numbers of $541 Billion for current year.

13. Ask Him To Be Specific
say, what policy or program of the Clinton administration caused our current financial mess?

In fact, Clinton did many things that were contrary to traditional Liberal principles. He worked with Republicans on "Welfare Reform" - reducing entitlements. You could blame him for NAFTA, but lots of Republicans support that too.

I can definitely lay much of the blame for our current situation on Bush. First, two major factors at work in the current economic crisis are the banking/credit crisis and the falling dollar.
* The banking credit crisis occurred in part because of a real estate bubble. One factor in the bubble is that credit was too easy to get and people, guided by greedy and sometimes downright dishonest mortgage brokers, bought more home than they needed. This was allowed to happen because of lax government enforcement. Now, many large finanicial institutions are in deep trouble, because they are holding all of these mortgages, and the amount of the mortgage is more than the value of the property.
* The falling dollar. Bush claimed we were "at war" on terrorism. Yet, historically, in all wars, we have raised taxes to help fund it. Americans made sacrifices to help the effort. Instead, Bush broke the paradigm and did not raise taxes, did not ask us to sacrifice. He borrowed money from foreign countries. After a while, the dollar became worth less money (supply and demand). If the dollar isn't worth as much, everything we buy costs more.

14. Nah, It's easy. I do it all the time...
See, you got to throw them off, come at them with something they don't expect.
Like this:

(Repub) blah, blah, blah, Clinton, blah, liberals, blah, blah, blah, Obama...
(Me) You done?
(Repub) Yeah
(Me) Let me ask you a question...
(Repub) Yeah
(Me) You can not be that fucking stupid can you?

That usually throws 'em. Most of them don't expect that.
Feel free to use the term "freaking" (with strong emphasis) instead of my stronger male repub response!

(Repub) What?
(Me) You don't really believe all that bullshit that just ran out of your mouth do you?
(Repub) Well, Yeah!
(Me) Listen, you probably listen to Rush right? Watch Fox News, O' Reilly right?
(Repub) (Usually) Yeah
(Me) Listen, I don't talk politics with people who are too fucking stupid to realize when they are being lied to.
(Me) So, you see the Red Sox game last night?

Shuts 'em down every time.
