not sure what your point is - keeping prisoners alive so you can torture more information from them is not morally defensible.

5. My point is.......ready?
That McCain was never tortured and all the injuries he received were from his bailing out of his plane.

That is why McCain is so adamant about keeping his records closed. And why he is fighting the POW/MIA people from getting more information about POWS.

8. And of course you can prove this?
what about all the accounts of his fellow POWs? Are you saying that none of the POWs were tortured or that McCain was treated differently?

This is really stupid.

9. You tell me.
The only other picture I have seen of McCain as a POW was him smoking a cigarette in the hospital. Maybe that explains his statement about killing Iranians with cigarettes? Oh, yes, I also have seen pix of him having high tea with the VietCong.

10. Show me pictures of torture in secret CIA prisons.
stupid argument - you really think the North Vietnamese were going to publicize their brutality of American POWs?

11. A great deal was written then about the torture
of American pilots who were shot down in Vietnam, at the time and in the years shortly following the release of the POWs. I can't begin to cite any of it. I just remember reading many articles and treatises on the subject. And the concensus (outside the mainstream media) seemed to be that there was no policy of torture by the North Vietnamese Army. I've read reports that pilots were often (ususally) captured by villagers when their planes came down - the same villagers whose little hamlets and rice paddies they were bombing. That the pilots were often so ill treated by the people they had dropped their bombs on that they were quite happy when they were 'rescued' by the regular army.

Can't say that's true. Wasn't there, no longer have access to the literature or people who were there. But it does seem logical.

I just watched again "Hearts and Minds", the contemporary documentary about that war. It shows just how those flyboys won the hearts and minds of the people they dropped the bombs on. Women whose children and grandchildren had been killed. little old ladies standing outside their former homes, pointing out where their kitchen had been; where their sister was sitting when the bomb wiped her and her house out. If you haven't seen this movie I strongly recommend it. Watch one of the guys who dropped bombs talk about what it was like. Daniel Ellsberg has a big role in this film, too.

You are brave to mention this in public. It is generally frowned upon to say anything positive about the Vietnamese anymore. And god help the person who even suggests that McCain was not a hero. We who weren't swallowing the propaganda knew differently then. It takes more than getting shot down while dropping bombs on civilians to make a hero.

12. Are you saying that no American POWs were tortured, or that just John McCain wasn't tortured?

What evidence do you have that McCain received such special treatment?
