Yesterday my R/W electrician asked me who B. Disraeli and Thomas Carlyle were.
He said he found bundles of letters from each (among others) in an antique secretary he had inherited.

"Bring them over", sez I. "I might give you $10-20 a bundle for old letters."

"OK," he sez. Then he went on a rant about the Libby trial. I just smiled.

Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881)
1st Earl of Beaconsfield
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

3. Now now....
Be a good Doo-bee and tell him about the value of the letters. (In other words, don't be a "Don't-bee)

4. I think he's messing with you.
Assuming you didn't make this whole story up, and I'll stipulate that, I doubt anyone who can decipher Disraeli's signature is going to check their value by just asking some client about them. R/W electricians know about the Internets, too. Especially ones who keep up with the Libby trial.

6. Oh, yes, freepers always pull the wool over our eyes
We're so gullible. Especially where Victorian era historical figures are involved.

7. Sparky doesn't own a computer.
He gets his news from AM talk radio (Ru$h, etc). Actually, if he has the real-McCoy, I'll get them appraised and do fair by him.

5. How lucky you are
I hated Carlyle. How he hated Emancipation in the then British West Indies. Called us lazy pumpkin eaters.

8. At least he knew who Libby was.
My air head RW co-worker (the one of "but I thought we banned the Dixie Chicks!" fame) had no clue who he was or what was going on.

One of these days I'm going to have to tell her that I don't want to hear her opinions until she pays more attention and becomes informed.
