Pet owners prefer McCain over Obama

WASHINGTON (AP) — If the presidential election goes to the dogs, John McCain is looking like best in show.

The apparent Democratic nominee Barack Obama, on the other hand, doesn't have a pet at home.

The pet-owning public seems to have noticed the difference.

An AP-Yahoo! News poll found that pet owners favor McCain over Obama 42 percent to 37 percent, with dog owners particularly in McCain's corner.

"I think a person who owns a pet is a more compassionate person — caring, giving, trustworthy. I like pet owners," said Janet Taylor of Plymouth, Mass.

Richard Powell, 79, of Spokane, Wash., whose dog passed away last fall, said if a person owns a pet that "tells you that they're responsible at least for something, for the care of something."

What else can I say, but :crazy:

I love my little kitty, but seriously, I couldn't care less if my elected officials have pets. In fact, if the Obama family isn't home enough right now to properly care for their pet, I think it is better that they don't have one right now. Can you imagine if they did? Then the headlines would read: Barack Obama- Doesn't Care for Pet; He Doesn't Care About America.

1. what a dumb assumption

i don't have pets at home because I know I don't have the time to give them the quality of life they deserve. (Well, i have fish but they don't care as long as i feed them and clean the tank.) Otherwise, I adore animals and have found other ways to help them.

Obama is smart ... two busy parents with young kids. It's very hard to add a pet to that mix. But when they get to the WH, they'll have a staff and the girls will insist on a dog or cat or ferret, and this time, mom and dad wont have any excuses. :P

But it will have to be a non-allergic breed (like a poodle or schnauzer), since one of them has allergies.

10. Yep. Remember video of George W. Bush feeding his dogs first thing in the morning

at the Crawford Ranch? The camera was there to catch him in his bathrobe, heading to the kitchen first thing in the morning to feed the dogs. The dog(s) were standing about staring up at him as if they'd never actually seen him in the kitchen before much less been fed by him before. This is the kind of thing that works. The latest of stupid polls to make this country look stupid. McCain didn't win the barbecue one so they had to keep trying.

BTW, why aren't they screaming about the McCain's leaving pets? It seems like a double standard all around.
