McCain gambling on offshore drilling
He thinks the nation's high gas prices will trump concerns about protecting the environment, especially in key Midwest states.

SANTA BARBARA -- For decades it has been a bipartisan political staple -- the jaunt to the beaches of Santa Barbara to profess opposition to oil drilling at the spot where a massive 1969 spill despoiled sea life and ocean waters, launching the modern environmental movement.

With visits here and elsewhere, Republicans Pete Wilson and Arnold Schwarzenegger used their environmental credentials to win the governor's office. George Bush the elder announced his support for a delay in oil drilling leases en route to victory in November 1988, when he became the last Republican to win the state in a presidential contest.

<snip>

Diana Cuttrell of Santa Barbara is one of them, and she fiercely opposes McCain's new stance.

"It's not going to solve the problem," she said of McCain's proposal to lift the federal moratorium on sea drilling. "It's a Band-Aid, basically. It's just pretty idiotic."

1. Let him drill off the coast of Arizona if it's such a good idea.

2. The Polls Say To Drill...I Say Let's Drill
This issue shows how really bankrupt Gramps and the GOOP are. He not only has no answer about the energy situation (other than to let the oil companies do whatever they like) but also no clue. All he's got is some poll his handlers did that says more people favor drilling than not...and why is that?

Hmmm...well could it be all those American Petroleum Institute spots we keep seeing over and over on the major networks...throwing millions into the corporate media meatgrinder and expecting to get something out of their return. Gramps promises to deliver. I find it very interesting that after years of people being against drilling that now there are polls that say the opposite.

In Gramps world, using alternative energy is riding in the Mercedes rather than taking the Hummer.
