John McCain is living in a pre - 1776 mindset.
The people have no rights except what the government decides to grant them. The government is free to snoop, eavesdrop, spy, arrest, and torture it's citizens on it's whim.

There was no Declaration of Independence. No US Constitution that specifies the powers of each branch of government. Just a monarchy and oligarchy that can do as it damn well pleases.

There is no Bill of Rights, except for maybe a right to bear arms, and to practice christian fundamentalist extremism. You have no right to be secure in your home, car, or person, if the police or FBI or DEA says otherwise, or if they were "acting in good faith".

You might have a right to free speech and assembly, as long as the message is approved by the powers that be, or is held in a cage 5 miles away from where anyone can see or hear you.

We're an empire now, just like our predecessors, the Brits. We can do whatever we want, to whoever we want, whenever we want, and there's nothing you can do about it.

The last 230 years never happened. Wealth and privelege are all that matters. Unions never had any power. They didn't need it, as our corporations were so benevolent. Children never organized strikes in the sweatshops and demanded a free public education. Education and upward mobility are only for the rich. But, if you're already rich at birth, and Pappy and Grand pappy have all the right connections, you don't need much mobility. You can slack and buy your way into the Presidency.

This is the world that John McCain and all the other Republicans live in. It's an ownership society. They own it. And you.
