Now this is extraordinarily weird...
Edited on Sat Jun-14-08 03:31 AM by PCIntern
So I'm up in the middle of the night for whatever reason, doing some catch-up work and some laundry (yes I do my own laundry - I'm one of those guys; I also do kitchen clean-up since I worked my way thru school and am really fast and good at that) and I'm scanning the channels and I see the WATERGATE HEARINGS on "Time Tunnel" on ABC News Now , a new channel which I just started getting because we escaped Comcast and went to Verizon FIOS.

Anyway, here's old Rethug Senator Gurney questioning Jeb Magruder and time after time he refers to the...well, I'll give you an example: "...the Republican and Democrat (sic) conventions". I thought I was hearing things so I turned up the volume a llittle b/c I didn't want to wake Mrs. Intern...and he did it over and over. Democrat Headquarters, Democrat Committee, etc.

At first I thought he was just dropping his syllable at the end of the sentence, but he wasn't. For those who are too young to recall the hearings, the Rethug members were very very defensve of Nixon for most of them, Senator Weicker of CT was a true 'maverick' as opposed to McCain, who is more "Sugarfoot" than Maverick. Anyway, (you can tell my age), don't think for one minute that the Rethugs weren't banging away at the Dems for the entire hearing trying to show Dem malfeasance, since the charge of the committee was to look at "all" campaign abuses. It was only late in the game when these guys had to relent and they weren't too eager to do so...it was only when the evidence was overwhelming (and even then there were plenty of idiots who were steadfast) that crimes had been committed that they shut up nd let the process happen. Of course, the pardoning of Nixon shut the door and we weill never know what was really going on there...it was extremely complex...the book Secret Agenda outlined some of the backstory never profferred by the MSM.

But the misuse of the word "Democrat" is even older than I realized....ya learn something every day...or middle-of-the-night.

oh.....

you should be committed to an asylum in which patients are treatrf entirely with encomia canonizing St. Timothy of Buffalo, sorta like in Sleeper, where Miles (Allen) is shown a vid of Howard Cosell:

Historian (showing Miles a tape of Howard Cosell): "We have a theory, that whenever a citizen committed a crime against the state, they were forced to watch this."

Miles: "Yes, that's exactly what that was."

Ahhh, Watergate. first there was the October Surprise of 1968, then there was the reading of the Hunter Thompson football interview with Nixon, then there was Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail (1972), then there was Watergate, with all the intendant jocularity ensuing

favorite books on that:

Blind Ambition (John Dean)

The Friends of Richard Nixon (1975)--Watergate, through a lawyer/crime fiction writer's eye....Friends of Eddie Coyle? ever see that?

Wars of Watergate (Stanley Kutler)
