Lynn Woolsey Supports Effort to Impeach President Bush
Submitted by davidswanson on Thu, 2008-06-12 15:24.

WASHINGTON, DC - June 11 - Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, today issued the following statement regarding a proposed privileged resolution regarding articles of impeachment against President Bush. Woolsey is a supporter of the resolution.

“Five years ago, President Bush undertook a deliberate and concerted campaign to send our nation to war against Iraq. This was not a war of necessity, but a war of choice. President Bush manipulated the intelligence in order to convince the Congress, and the American Public, that Iraq represented a clear and present danger to our national security. A threat so grave, we were told, that continued diplomatic efforts would lead to mushroom clouds.

“There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, and no terrorist connections between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda. However, there is ample evidence to suggest that President Bush planned to invade Iraq long before Congress gave him the authorization to do so, and that he undertook a campaign to manipulate the intelligence regarding Iraq’s supposed weapons program.

“More than 4,000 brave men and women have paid for President Bush’s mistake with their lives. And tens of thousands of others will forever bear the physical and mental wounds of war. As a coequal branch of government the Congress owes it to each one of them, and their families, to hold those who led us to war under false pretences accountable.”

1. Thank you Lynn Woolsey.
Those who claim that impeachment is unnecessary because the next attorney general can accuse and try Bush after he leaves office do not know what they are talking about.

There is a strong argument based on a reading of Federalist Paper # 65 and other authorities and opinions that only Congress has the authority to try a president, whether currently serving or out of office, for crimes that are not of a strictly personal nature.

The president must be impeached now. Tomorrow is too late. The process must start now. Congress has been amassing evidence over the past two years. Witnesses are becoming available. We need to start the process. We need to get the public momentum going. The president does not have the authority to pardon in the case of impeachment. \

DUers need to read the Constitution and Federalist Paper No. 65. You can Google them. I have posted links to these resources so many times, I'm not going to do it here again. Please just google these resources. You can't use them enough.

9. i think the mail man is being considered.
sadly, our governor appears to be a nut case. at any rate, he is certainly under siege. he will pick the one that brings him the most of whatever it is that winds his little watch. we are even wondering if he might appoint himself. which he can do.
another name being floated is tammy duckworth.
whoever it is will have to defend the seat in 2010. i can't see why you would appoint anyone but one of the winning-est rep in the state. but i am not blaggo.

7. Woolsey simly ROCKS!! She was aware early on of the Election Theft of 2004
She NEVER voted for the IWR, or gave any encouragement to the Bush faction when it acted hysterical over terrorism.

She holds open house for her constituents, and if you live in her district and sign up in advance you will have 10 to 40 minutes of her undivided attention.

Cannot say enough great and good things enough about this woman.

10. She was the only one with the guts to endorse DK for prez, too
Let's not forget that. None of the other members of the "progressive" caucus turned out to be progressive enough.

13. Don't forget Barbara Lee
I called her office yesterday to ask why she wasn't supporting DK's resolution and they told me she WAS! I should have known better than to doubt her.
