WEST PALM BEACH — When a tenant didn't pay his rent, police said the landlord got a baton out of his Mercedes and beat the man with it.

Obelio Rodriguez, 39, was charged with aggravated battery Sunday after he told police he struck the tenant at 5650 Columbus Road and instructed his wife to get the expandable baton out of his car to give it to the officers.

But the tenant showed up in court this morning and — through a Spanish interpreter — told Judge Nancy Perez that he doesn't want to pursue charges. He said he thinks the altercation Friday at 8 p.m. was his fault because he didn't pay rent.

The police report said he went to the hospital with broken fingers and possible internal injuries, police said.

However, the victim said he did not have any broken fingers.

Perez set bail at $1,500.

As an quasi-anarchist, anyone behaving in such a callous and materialistic and brutal way (as that landlord had)appears to me as a "compassionate conservative." I'm way down in the lower left quadrant of that chart.

I would be willing to bet that that landlord loves Bush and supports McCain, irrespective of his party affiliation. And let me be clear. This is an opinion. Not everyone on this board is willing to admit that about things they utter as "truth". Present company excepted, of course.

If that landlord had a sentient bit to him, I agree with you that he thinks the current administration and its aspiring pretender are the neatest things since sliced bread. I would go further and say that he still doesn't understand why slavery is no more.

Ah, the things people honestly hold true versus the things they espouse. There's a world of interesting exchanges in that concept, but, in this time of utmost Political Correctness, it'll never happen. Not here. Not ever.
