Teen saves baby who fell under bus
ALBANY — A 14-year-old boy walking home from school saved the life of a baby who had fallen under the front wheel of a stopped bus that was about to drive off, police said.

Tyler Purvis-Mitchell, of 2 Sard Road, a sports-loving student at Albany Preparatory Charter School, was heading home around 2 p.m. Friday when he saw the 5-day-old baby fall out of his stroller.

“He was under the wheel of the bus and it was getting ready to leave,” Purvis-Mitchell said Saturday. “I ran over and grabbed him.”

He first had to step in front of the bus, he said. The driver saw him in time and stopped.

The child received a cut to his head and some abrasions, police said.

5. Better explanation here

At the same time, Amanda Hoffman of Bertha Street was trying to get Anthony, her 5-day-old baby, and a stroller on the bus by pulling the stroller up the stairs of the bus.

Unknown to her, the baby fell out of the stroller, hit the blacktop and rolled underneath the bus tire, police spokesman Detective James Miller said. Purvis-Mitchell, of Sard Road, saw the baby underneath the bus in front of a wheel. He quickly grabbed the baby as the bus was about to take off, Miller said.

13. Well
I have a true story about that very same thing. My SIL had given birth to my nephew Billy just about a week before I went out to see them in CA. One of the places we went to had some stone steps, and since this was Barbie's first, she wasn't exactly sure how to use the stroller. (We're talking late 70s) She began to pull the stroller up the steps, and the freaking back of the stroller collapsed, and week old Billy ended up falling out the back, right onto the steps. Everyone panicked (as well they might) but as it turned out, Billy was fine with no long term problems. I can say that now because he's 28 now, and is a wiseass. :)

15. there are stories out there of people leaving the hospital, setting
the baby carriers on their car top and driving off, the baby falling off the car and being retrieved by truckers. that sort of thing happens more often then most would think. What a wonderful boy this is.

9. Is it wrong that I read this as "teen threw baby under the bus" and immediately
got annoyed at the overuse of the "thrown under the bus" expression?

6. You turn your head
to walk up the steps, pay your fare, speak to someone... at the exact moment the very tiny baby slips out.

No, it's never happened to me, but I do have the experience and imagination to figure out how it did happen. It's called empathy.
