Watching Recount on HBO
I am reminded once again what a horrible group of despicable(to put it lightly)characters the re-thuglicans really are! I have yet to be able to see it in it's absolute entirety, but it sure looks like all the facts are presented quite accurately! I was sickened by that part concerning the death threat, "You will die tonight!" note that one of the recounters/certifiers rec'vd. This, of course,is just one of many outrages! Katherine Harris-what a self-serving bitch! How does she live with herself!! Although Laura Dern-you must get an emmy for a fantastic performance!!

Isn't it grand that HBO can rerun this over and over and should throughout the election.

Isn't it sad to watch that movie and realize how pivotal the moment of defeat really was, how horribly that particular election turned out not just for Gore/ Dems, but for the world-indirectly-Iraq, Afghanistan-maybe ultimately Iran (-oh, please God,or Buddha-no!), oil prices, the dollar, Katrina victims, and on and on and on and on!

Wasn't it disgusting to realize that while watching it that you thought at the time, that as bad as it was, you couldn't possibly have dreamed that one little dipshit republican prez could destroy so much, and that they would actually get away with stealing the next election again!!!

Isn't it really way beyond sad and repulsive that although mostly victorious in 2006, we are still scared beyond reason that they will try to steal it again, no matter how hard we get behind and come out in droves for our candidate?

My bones were absolutely chilled watching Recount, and I bet yours were too, now that you know what you know.

1. Watched last night an frankly
I thought the producers and directors soft-balled the Republicans.

I think that in trying to be "fair" to both sides they tried to play down the underhandedness of the Republicans. Until near the end we never heard a word about the caging lists for example. Instead of starting out on election day they could have gone back and briefly shown the "dirty tricks" pulled schemes that allowed Bush to come close.

Aside from that I thought it was pretty boring.

8. It's almost as if you've read my mind.
They also left out the fact that the Bushes' cousin at Faux News was the one who called the election, causing the other networks to backtrack on the "Gore win".

2. Always have to put my 2 cents in because I lived it in Palm Beach during the 200 fiasco
This is where Wexler got his wings so....something good came out of it! However, I remember how much we got ridiculed here. It was truly awful and I agree, the movie doesn't give us locals any real credit.

3. I have a republican friend that told me I should watch it (I already had)...
Edited on Sun Jun-01-08 05:34 PM by Ravy
but to him, it told the story of how the republicans stopped the Democrats from stealing the election.

I understand James Baker screened it for his friends, too. I honestly think that the republicans think it showed the Democrats in a bad light.

11. There is a scene, after the fight is over, where they show Baker...
and the look on his face - it's a look of him thinking - "Holy shit. I just put an idiot in the Whitehouse."

13. Yeah, but you also get the impression that he only did it as a favor to Poppy
When Baker tells that story about his wife dying from cancer and how "a friend" invited him to run his campaign and take his mind off of it, and the "friend" was Poppy Bush.

If that's the case, I can appreciate Baker's loyalty to his friend, but its too bad that its all been for evil.

5. Now rent Unprecedented...
http://www.unprecedented.org/
and make sure you check out the extra features.
Recount was good but thin on detail - Unprecedented covers it all and it is amazing how many levels there were to this thing

6. I've been TV-free for over a decade. By and large, I feel that I'm way ahead of the game.
I get ALL my information from my bookshelves, my DVD collection, and from the internet. And discussions on DU, is largely where I get my insights and leads. After that, it's Google, and Google as deep as may be necessary.

But there are a few times like now, that I miss it. I'd really like to watch that Recount, but I seriously doubt that it would be ALLOWED to frankly discuss critical aspects of that FIASCO.

But I do have that Unprecedented DVD, and I'll watch it once more this evening. Thanks for the reminder!

PS: I wonder if this woman has watched either Recount or Unprecedented:

7. Another sad thing. Tweety said this week that only 1 million people tuned in last Sun. night
to watch Recount. It seems that people still have very little interest in their Democratic system.

9. They might be able to get away with stealing this election too.
Nothing significant has been done to insure that every vote is counted accurately.

14. Who the fuck was the colonel anyway?

I'd never heard that little piece of the Brooks Brothers riot before. (Not just that insane line, but the whole thing about the Gore lawyer being cornered in the elevator by the raging 'Puke mob.)
