I think we can't dismiss that there is that possibility, but what's the likelihood?

1. Mark Crispin Miller does
Audio: Mark Crispin Miller on Mike Malloy - 5.29.2008

Author Mark Crispin Miller was on Mike Malloy's NovaM broadcast last night, talking about his new book, Loser Take All.

Miller warns that if the election is close enough, the Republicans will try to steal it. Further, Miller warns us to be psychologically prepared for any crazy moves that the current regime may try and pull to broaden wars or simply declare Martial Law at home. After all, this isn't just any political dynasty poised to lose power, this is the Bush Crime Family.

Strong medicine for our weak media, and the supine Congress.

3. Is this the same martial law that nitwits were predicting in 2002, 04 and 06?
Anyone throwing out the "martial law" scenario is a nutjob.

12. I don't know where you've been,
But we've pretty much been living in proxy martial law state since the 2000 appointment.

I read his early books after the 2000 election, but now what he says seems so surreal.

...legislation that requires paper verification of votes across this nation.

17. That's how we stopped 'em in '06
Our numbers are what overcame whatever numbers they computed. Which isn't to they'll be better prepared this time.

13. It certainly is hard to believe that they will just
bow out gracefully, and let the Dems take over. They don't want to be on trial the rest of their lives! However, I truly believe in the power of the people this time around, and that with so many watchdog groups, it might be much harder than they believe. They have sneaky software and sneaky buttons. I say, since the last election that someone on the Dem side has invented some sneaky software that will bust their ass in progress!!! Catch the MF's red-handed!

15. We're likely to lose from the large amount of arrogance among most dems that 08 is a lock for us
I've been saying it for a year and a half, all of the arrogance I'm seeing from democrats most places I go (like DU for example) about our chances in 08 really make me nervous that we're going to get too overconfident and blow it. Pride comes before a fall.

I can't even count the number of times I've seen people post topics here saying "hey you guys know that we're winning this election no matter who nominate right". I think Hillary's campaign has even said something similar to that at one point when justifying why they're fighting on.

The fact of the matter is this primary battle and our arrogance is making us blow it, we're ignoring the guy we should be attacking, John McCain.

Right after John Kerry won the nomination last election the republicans instantly put up a bunch of negative ads against him while Kerry was still broke and unable to go on the air and defend himself. John McCain was pretty much broke once he won the nomination, so did democrats steal the GOP's own tactic from them? Nope, instead we did absolutely nothing except attack our own two candidates.

You would think with all of the arrogance among our party that both Obama and Hillary lead McCain by 15%+ in national polls, but no, they lead him by only a few points, within the margin of error usually.

18. With Obama in the Dems' catbird seat, all bets are off
Hillary was the Rethugs' first choice because she'd be easiest to beat, and failing that, easiest to control through her DLC ties. But Obama anti-lobbying/special interest group platform can throw their plans fatally off kilter. They know they're in big trouble--and believe that extreme situations require extreme solutions.

22. Close enough to steal. No matter if it is Obama or Hillary.
I do. The corprat controlled media will say that Americans weren't ready for an historic election even though they foisted this upon us. Yeah the pukes will steal it again and we were played.

23. There will be a LOT of theft, but IMO it won't be enough to steal the White House.
I shouldn't dismiss the possibility completely, but I can't see any ad campaigns that can make John McCain look more like hope than the Dem nominee.

24. Depends on us
I've been guilty of it too, most of us have at least to a point I'd guess, but we've got to stop fighting among ourselves and start focusing on the general election. I can't remember who it was but a video posted here recently suggested something that seems to ring true. They can steal it but only by so much, the higher the voter turnout and the larger the real spread the harder it's going to be to steal.

If we can pull together to work the press and the swing voters like we know we can when we're working at it we'll do ok, the repubs don't have much to stand on this time and both the economy and the war are issues we should do well with. Only way we should be able to lose is if we let them have it because we're too busy fighting among ourselves or acting injured over hurt feelings. They can only cheat by so much before it gets too obvious and risky, a close election is theirs so we can't allow it to be close.

25. The people who can steal the election from the Democrats
is the Democrats. Whoever is nominated needs everyone's support-we can fight amongst ourselves later after we win the presidency and the congress.
