1. He was shielded by executive privilege then.
I don't think that's applicable now, so there is a difference.

2. They're All Shielded
Any contempt citation has to be refered to the DOJ where Mukasey will tell Leahy and Conyers to go pound sand. He won't let the case go to a grand jury that would then lead to an indictment. Also, any indictment of any booosh regime member is sure to be pardoned away. That's a big reason Rove knows he can shoot his mouth off right now and is having fun watching others fume as he's got that ace in his pocket. The court challenge on Executive privilidge is in the hands of the same "fixer" who said Cheney's energy policy was "legal" (Bates, I think the name is) that assures this case won't be decided anytime soon. If anything I suspect this regime has already executive ordered all sorts of pradons and immunity...it's gonna take a while for a future Democratic administration to sort out.

Inherent Contempt is the only tool that either committee has now and then it's only to compel testimony, not to go after any criminality. That, again, has to be refered to the DOJ...with Mukasey again ready to stonewall. This regime has shielded itself and until its removed can any real prosecutions move forward. It may take even longer as a new administration will have so many other fires to put out first.

I do expect Congressman Conyers and Wexler not to sit on their hands. Waxman, either. And I suspect Leahy has a few scores to settle as well...but it may just work better for them with not only a Democrat in the White House but also large majorities in both Houses and within their own committees.

3. Rove was canned for criminal activity.

Ironically, it was probably fired USA David Iglesia's complaint to Scott Bloch that got him canned.

And, what did Scott Bloch get. An FBI raid on his home!!
