Conyers: 'We're closing in on Rove'
Go get 'em, John!

From Politico's "The Crypt":

http://www.politico.com/blogs/thecrypt/0508/Conyers_Were_closing_in_on_Rove.html

Just off the House floor today, the Crypt overheard House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers tell two other people: “We’re closing in on Rove. Someone’s got to kick his ass.”

Asked a few minutes later for a more official explanation, Conyers told us that Rove has a week to appear before his committee. If he doesn’t, said Conyers, “We’ll do what any self-respecting committee would do. We’d hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested.”

Conyers said the committee wants Rove to testify about his role in the imprisonment of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman, among other things.

“We want him for so many things, it’s hard to keep track,” Conyers said.

1. They better wrap up all those investigations very quickly!
Obama has already said he will only prosecute on existing information, so I wouldn't count oh him approving any additional investigation of BushCo. The time is now!

13. The "existing information" is only what BushCo has allowed to be gathered
The official investigations... of themselves... that's all "we" have right now. That's why it's very important for Conyers, et al, to get the lead out and wrap this stuff up!

It was posted here on DU. I'm not sure how you'd Google that one up. He was asked point blank if he was going to prosecute the Bush administration, and that was his response.

Here you go:

Tonight I had an opportunity to ask Barack Obama a question that is on the minds of many Americans, yet rarely rises to the surface in the great ruckus of the 2008 presidential race -- and that is whether an Obama administration would seek to prosecute officials of a former Bush administration on the revelations that they greenlighted torture, or for other potential crimes that took place in the White House.

Obama said that as president he would indeed ask his new Attorney General and his deputies to "immediately review the information that's already there" and determine if an inquiry is warranted -- but he also tread carefully on the issue, in line with his reputation for seeking to bridge the partisan divide. He worried that such a probe could be spun as "a partisan witch hunt." However, he said that equation changes if there was willful criminality, because "nobody is above the law."

He said he would not use the office of the Presidency to initiate investigations, that he expected the AG and any other agency to follow the evidence.

37. Yeah, follow the evidence,
Determine where a FULL INQUIRY is warranted, which would mean MORE EVIDENCE. Not use the Presidency to launch a partisan witch hunt. He did not say he wasn't going to investigate anything. It's time to stop the primary propaganda which has been nothing but a pack of lies.

I'm quoting him. There is a difference.

And if you think BushCo has allowed any evidence of their own crimes to remain in the official evidence, you are dreaming.

"The information that is already there" = Obama's own words. Now, tell me how much incriminating evidence you think BushCo is allowing to remain in the official information that is already there.

And have for a long time. You are not quoting him, you're lying about what he said. Just like the lies about his stance on choice and health care and NAFTA and a hundred other lies that the Clinton campaign has misinformed their voters about. He's the nominee, it's time for you to either recognize you've been spinning campaign propaganda, shut up, or go join McCain.

50. Oh bullshit
I only attack lies and hate.

I'm quoting Obama, so how can I be lying? I never even heard another DUer bring this point up, much less a Clinton supporter!

Some of us do have minds of our own. Many of us have never joined either candidate's camp. I've never been much of a follower, or a parrot-er. I prefer to think for myself... which may explain my aversion to the hysteria here over BOTH candidates. Neither is worthy of MY hysteria, neither has inspired me in the slightest.

I'm only voting for the Democrat because he's a Democrat.

25. While I'd like to see Karl, et al. arrested as much as anybody
I'm a bit concerned that if legal actions are brought before ** is out of office, he'll just pardon them all. And then my other fear is that Obama, in an effort to "bring us all together" (since that has been his stated goal) will just let the criminals slide.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- if WE as a nation don't bring these criminals to justice, we'll never be able to claim moral authority again on the world stage.

He is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

If there are no physical repercussions, ie. imprisonment, they might as well just do nothing.

And I have absolutely NO expectation of anything happening except some vacuous declaration of contempt which is easy to declare and has no meaning to anyone.

Rove has walked over them before and they let him. Why should now be any different?
