GOP Stunned By Loss in Mississippi
By Reid Wilson

In a major blow to national Republicans, a Mississippi congressional seat that once voted for President Bush by a twenty-five point margin elected a Democrat on Tuesday. Prentiss County Chancery Clerk Travis Childers beat out Republican candidate Greg Davis, the mayor of Southaven, by a 54%-46% margin, a spread that several Republican strategists on Capitol Hill characterized as a startling wake-up call for a party in dire straits.

2. Bush lost that election for them. Coupled with the large number of new Democratic voters
which is, in part, thanks to the interest in the extended primary season.

3. Only way to improve that headline is if they'd used the word gobsmacked.
:)

4. Any written work is improved by the use of the word 'gobsmacked'
In fact, your post stands out simply due to the use of it.

:D

8. I Saw It Here In IL-14...Hastertland
Talk about the turning of a worm. Two years ago, Gym Teach Denny was trying to steal money to build a highway to honor himself. Today he's "ye who can't be said" in his old district...and Bill Foster was a brilliant candidate. All Bill had to do was play "cause and effect"...put the actions of the booosh regime to the words of his opponent and he couldn't lose. It's a formula I expect could win 2 or 3 more former GOOP seats here in Illinois this year and in many other areas.

As the late Tip O'Neil said "all politics are local"...and thanks to Dr. Dean's 50-state stratetgy, Democrats have returned to that concept...and it's starting to pay off. The party has worked hard in making itself visible in places it was long dormant and now are in a great position to build on that outreach. All these primaries didn't hurt either.

The story developing here isn't what the GOOP is going to run on this year...but run from...and how far and how fast?
