"Kiss my ass! Not happening." ... Man refuses to stop using cell phone during flight
What a genteel society we are cultivating.

===

Dallas police met a Southwest Airlines plane at Dallas Love Field on Monday after flight staff reported that a passenger refused to stop using his mobile phone during the flight.

Joe David Jones, 50, was cited for disorderly conduct, Dallas police said.

The incident occurred during a Southwest flight from Austin to Dallas. “After multiple requests, the flight attendants were not successful in getting the passenger to get off the phone,” said Southwest spokeswoman Brandy King.

According to a Dallas police report, flight attendants had asked Mr. Jones to turn off his cell phone and he responded with, "Kiss my ---." When asked again, he stated, "Kiss my ---. Not happening," the report said.

He remained on the phone for about 20 minutes.

1. I guess he won't be flying much in the future
I've been wondering how things will be now that people are using public transportation so much more. It's definitely on the rise. I was wondering how many fist fights will be breaking out on buses and light rail and fannies are jammed into those small spaces and folks are cheek by jowl while jabbering on their cells.

6. They'll toss you off the bus in Marin.
Marin has strict ordinances regarding behavior on public trans. And they are gleefully enforced.

11. Insert envy here
I was on a two-hour bus ride from Toronto to Peterborough last week, and the woman sitting behind us was holding a very loud, very ostentatious conversation on her cellphone which mostly consisted of her lecturing the other side on her life philosophies which demonstrated her Clear Awesomeness. That was between detailed discussion of medical issues and family gossip.

We were wondering after the first half hour if there was actually someone on the other end, or if she was just pretending to have a conversation. I've seen that on public transit a few times before, though it was mainly wannabe gangbangers trying to sound hardcore.

8. From age 13 I learned how...
Bring something to read, find a spot to stand or sit and mind your own business until you reach your destination - NYC subways and buses. Worked very well for many years.

10. You mean . . . the plane didn't crash from the interference from the cell phone?

How could that be?

They must have forgotten to write that the plane crashed because of his cell phone being on. Must have forgot.

12. To be fair neither a CDMA or GSM signal could ever affect the electronics in our modern fleet.
Same goes for the old analog tec. At the same time while an analog signal would have made it to a plan you would be hard pressed to get good service up there with a 3g phone.

14. I agree with that.
Besides it's nice to be unreachable when you're on a plane. But why in the hell do I have to shut off ALL my electronic devices?

When I want a smoothie I want a smoothie NOW DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

19. apparently the reason people on cell phones are so frustrating is because your brain
without you even knowing it is trying desperately to figure out what the other side of the conversation is and since that is imposable it automatically pisses you off.

16. True dat, I flew with my brother who rented a Cessna 172 a month ago
Flying around a few miles from my house we were passing close by a cellphone tower, I'd take a guess we were less than a thousand feet from it. I pulled my phone out to see if I was getting a signal, all it got was 1 single bar. And then nothing after the brief couple seconds I saw it.
