Please join John Edwards as he resumes his campaign...
... to end poverty in America.

Please join John @ http://www.halfinten.org

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
half in ten
from poverty to prosperity
A Campaign to Cut Poverty in the United States in Half in Ten Years
Half in Ten plans to reduce poverty in the United States by 50 percent within 10 years. Under the leadership of Senator John Edwards, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) (http://www.acorn.org), the Center for American Progress Action Fund (CAPAF) (http://www.americanprogressaction.org), the Coalition on Human Needs (CHN) (http://www.democracyinaction.org/chn), and the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights (LCCR) (http://www.civilrights.org), have joined forces on the campaign to:
(1) Elevate and sustain a focus on the situations facing the poor and middle class today
(2) Build and strengthen an effective constituency to demand legislative action on poverty and economic mobility
(3) Advance specific legislative and policy proposals that will deliver real benefits to struggling American families
For more information on how to reduce poverty in America, see From Poverty to Prosperity: A National Strategy to Cut Poverty in Half (http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2007/04/poverty_report.html) by the Center for American Progress Task Force on Poverty.
Please do this in my mom's memory.
Thank you, and love to all,
Indigo Blue (Sapphire Blue's daughter)
To Stamp Out Poverty!
With honor I gladly Kick & Rec! Got my ONE bracelet on my night stand! John spoke clearly about this problem and a need to make a solution occur, when I saw him, and on TV in numerous debates when the mods only wanted to discuss Hillary & Barack's comments about each other (remember those debates???? GOODNESS, PAINFUL!)
19. On This Mothers Day- Kick, Rec and ACT!
For Sapphire Blue and Mothers everywhere...
And let us remember, too, Julia Ward Howe's original work to end all wars-
Mother's Day Proclamation
Arise, then, women of this day!
Arise, all women who have hearts,
Whether our baptism be of water or of tears!
Say firmly:
"We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant agencies,
Our husbands will not come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses and applause.
Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn
All that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience.
We, the women of one country, will be too tender of those of another country
To allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs."
From the bosom of the devastated Earth a voice goes up with our own.
It says: "Disarm! Disarm! The sword of murder is not the balance of justice."
Blood does not wipe out dishonor, nor violence indicate possession.
As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil at the summons of war,
Let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and earnest day of counsel.
Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead.
Let them solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means
Whereby the great human family can live in peace,
Each bearing after his own time the sacred impress, not of Caesar,
But of God.
In the name of womanhood and humanity, I earnestly ask
That a general congress of women without limit of nationality
May be appointed and held at someplace deemed most convenient
And at the earliest period consistent with its objects,
To promote the alliance of the different nationalities,
The amicable settlement of international questions,
The great and general interests of peace.
23. Too bad Peak oil is coming at us..
Sorry to say but rising energy costs are going to throw a whole bunch of middle class people and poor people under the bus in the coming decades.. While this is a noble effort, its not being taken in the context it should be.. No one in a leadership position is talking about oil prices and peaking oil production around the world.. We are going to be a poor nation as a whole because we will not have the liquid fuel needed to make our economy grow that way it is today.. We need to rethink the way we choose to run our economy before its too late..
Food for thought All of this raises a question: If a growing number of experts say that peak oil is imminent, if this peak implies massive economic consequences, and if any switch to an economy that is not largely based on fossil-fuel is decades away at best, what is a community to do? There are more than 190 groups in towns and cities worldwide, driven by peak oil and climate change concerns, working to prepare their communities for a transition to a post-oil economy, emphasizing radical conservation, local food production, locally generated energy and sustainable local business.
33. Thank you so much for doing that, midnight! If you'd like to read through her journal,
you can find it here: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Sapphire%20Blue (The two most recent entries are mine; I posted them knowing how strongly my mom felt about poverty & how strongly she supported John Edwards)
And, in her own words, from Feb. 2006...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A little insight...

I don't have the big DU name or following, don't have the writing capabilities of the esteemed H20 Man, and don’t have especially popular positions on some issues (was called a fanatic & worse for supporting the late Stan Williams’ clemency, while being attacked w/some intense hatred.)

What I have is my conscience and a strong determination to live according to my conscience… with what time I have left. No, I am not presently terminal, but I am living w/three different types of cancer. This has made death very real to me… and motivates me to make every remaining second of my life count for something, to make a positive difference. Perhaps this will help some of you to understand where my passion/obsession/fanaticism comes from… and perhaps you will cut me a little slack when coming across my passionate/obsessive/fanatic posts in the future.

In the words of Elie Wiesel, “Our lives no longer belong to us alone; they belong to all those who need us desperately.” (from his Nobel Acceptance Speech: http://www.eliewieselfoundation.org/ElieWiesel/speech.html)

My life belongs “to all those who need us desperately.” Every second that I have left.

http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Sapphire%20Blue/38

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"My life belongs “to all those who need us desperately.” Every second that I have left." She really lived those words, and taught my brothers and me to live them also.
There's so much that's worth reading throughout her journal. If you have some time, read on: http://journals.democraticunderground.com/Sapphire%20Blue
38. Indigo - I was so happy to see a post
journaled for Sapphire Blue - I knew she had been sick but didn't know if she passed or not, my condolences to you all, she had a beautiful soul and I have missed her greatly. Thank you for posting this, I have been spending more time with my kids (and my house is cleaner too!) since John dropped out, so I haven't been here like I used to. I signed up last week - too late for me to rec but I hope this gives this thread a hearty kick.
Thank you and :hug:, I wish you all the joy and love in the world.
