And probably now only because they think it might hurt future enlistment quotas for their never-ending war. One would think that the esteemed Sec. of Defense would be aware of these conditions. Somehow, I just can't picture them feeling any shame at all.

Army reacts after video reveals shoddy barracks

"FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. - Spc. Loren Dauterman, who trained at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin last month with the National Guard, found something good to say about the falling-apart floors and ceilings in her quarters. Barely.

"It is better than sleeping out in the woods," Dauterman said last week, "but not a whole lot better."

Thousands of soldiers at Fort McCoy, Fort Campbell and elsewhere are assigned to barracks built for the GIs who fought World War II and the Korean War. The buildings are showing their age, and the soldiers are getting fed up.

After a soldier's father posted a video on YouTube last month showing the dilapidated barracks for paratroopers at Fort Bragg, N.C., Defense Secretary Robert Gates called those conditions appalling and ordered base commanders to ensure their troops have proper quarters..."

1. Well geez, with all the increased defense spending
the soldiers should have some darn nice barracks to stay in. But I guess all that money doesn't "trickle down" that far.

2. my cousin thinks they're pussies
She and husband are life long military and she works in those conditions every day at base..says she hates it when the National Guard dudes come in as they are whiners about their conditions. Guess she's accustomed to living that way....

3. Pretty much everything in Fayetteville/Fort Bragg
looks that way, but dammit, billions of dollars could cover humane living conditions. Looks like a healthy military could fight better, but I guess the BFEE just sees them as an expendable human meat market. I hope there is a special spot in Hell for that fucking administration right next to the Hitler asshole.
