The right blogoshere covers Walter Reed
http://www.indepundit.com/archive2/2007/02/another_friday.html#

The squalor of Mologne House

"SUPPORT THE TROOPS." For some people, it's second nature. For others, it's just an empty political slogan.

On Friday, Tantor and I went to Walter Reed to visit some friends. But first, we stopped in front of the main gate to visit the seven remaining members of the Code Pink "vigil" that has been gathering on Georgia Avenue every Friday evening for the past eighteen months.

SMASH: Can I ask you guys a question?
WOMAN: Yeah, sure.

SMASH: Can any of you name three soldiers being treated at this hospital?

The woman muttered something nonsensical about "breach of confidentiality." I turned to Bruce Wolf, the leader of the group.

(Now, exactly who considers "support the troops" an empty slogan?)

1. So one only supports the troops if you know their names?
That makes sense.

6. If everyone lived in the Mologne House lobby, well, they'd have a point.
And Mologne House is NOT patient housing, it's a goddamned installation hotel, like the Navy Lodge, for people who are TAD or PCSing, or on leave on a space available basis. See here: http://www.wramc.amedd.army.mil/mologne/

A frigging one legged E-3 can't afford a MINIMUM charge of sixty bucks a night. Idiots!!!!!

But of course, if these fuckers were actually ever in the military, and knew jackshit about that facility or the Walter Reed campus as a whole, and knew what they were talking about before they shot off their mouths, they wouldn't make that terrible, fatal, we-don't-know-what-the-fuck-we-are-talking-about mistake.

But hey, picture worth a thousand words!!!!!!!!! Let that lie travel halfway around the world!

You should see the general officer quarters on that installation--they're like the damned White House, only in brick. Only problem is, those kids weren't living in these fancy facilities. EITHER.

But I guess they figure those WAPO pics of crumbling walls and rampant mold are just tricks of their lying eyes....

4. The dissociation and self-delusion still startles
The other thing I love is when you say you support the troops and their mission, they tell you that if you do then you should go and sign up..otherwise you are a coward and a chicken hawk. I still have yet to figure out that argument or where it came from. After all, doesn't the same apply to them? Can they really be against it if they aren't there fighting it? If they really want to be against it, then shouldn't THEY sign up so that they know what they are against? Maybe actually go there and see and feel the war for themselves to at least give them a little insight? I know, if they really are against this "War for Oil", and all the killing, then why aren't they there protesting the Al Qaeda and insurgents who are blowing up kids and women in the markets? Are they cowards? Or just blatant hypocrites. After all...aren't the majority of killings being done by their "Freedom Fighters"? Isn't their silence actually an endorsement of their violence? Why is only the killing done by our troops of the insurgents bad? Shouldn't they be there, protesting or "vigiling" at an Iraqi hospital for all the "freedom fighters" that are hurt or wounded?

:eyes: You really have to wonder how these idiots manage to dress themselves in the morning.

5. Breach ofconfidentiality is "nonsensical" to these fucksticks???
And they get their kicks out of bullying little (many old) ladies in pink?

Wow, what a bunch of Rambos.

As someone who has 'enjoyed' the Walter Reed experience, before it was broken, let me tell you, it isn't high society on a good day. Unless your name is Strom Thurmond (and this is because he LIVED in a small apartment of sorts at WR toward the end of his life, even while he was still attending Senate sessions) you don't get the deluxe facilities. Even the flag/general spaces, which the Congress used to use as well (they go to Bethesda more often or Hopkins, even, nowadays) are nice but functional and spare.
