USPS prices changing May 12 (basic stamps up a penny)
I happened to see a sign up at the post office today but hadn't heard about it. It sounds like some prices will go down but the basic stamps go up to $0.42 unless you have forever stamps. Not that a run on the forever stamps makes sense for only a penny.

1. Question heard at the Post Office: "How long are these "forever" stamps

3. They'll only raise them again before Christmas due to the price of gas for delivery.

4. I'm sure gas prices have something to do with it
I know it's not the same people affected, but there's something bizarre to me about the government mailing out stimulus checks while they have to raise the price of postage.

6. Costco has 100 Forever stamps for $40 and change.
I'm planning to buy a couple of rolls before the USPS price increase.

7. By law, they can now increase postage each year:
Consistent with The Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act, we will adjust our mailing services prices each May. By law, these prices can increase on average no more than the rate of inflation as measured by the Consumer Price Index. We plan to provide 90 days' notice of the new prices each year, to help mailers prepare for the change.

As a side note, as far as I know, postage metering machines cannot be reconfigured for the new rates this year, so everyone has to get a new machine. Pretty nifty, huh? :grr:

8. I help 'em out with junk mail
Every unsolicited piece that comes to me with a postage paid envelope. I send it right back. Empty.

Talking about banks and credit card companies -- not schools or charities. Discover gets several of these returns from me a month.
