Germans don't like George W. Bush
My son won the Congress-Bundestag Scholarship to spend a year in Germany. The scholarship is sponsored and paid for by the state department. We just got a letter that says:

I have not met a single German who liked George W Bush, so I recommend treading carefully if you announce you support him.

bwahahahahahahahaha
:rofl:

23. Because they have the intelligence (as well as the decency) to do so,
unlike the sad-sack neo-Nazis, who can't draw simple lessons from overwhelming indications, and realise that their heroes were not even just losers, but losers' losers.

15. Nah...I won't go that far! I will just be glad to be in company of people that don't think he is
the perfect president (resident of red state so I still come across quite a few Bush stickers!).

18. I was kidding but
I've heard a few people say that Europeans aren't sure they will like you unless they know how you feel about Bush. That they're a little shy about talking to Americans because they don't know which kind of American they are. A Bushie or a decent one.

If I may I'd like to suggest that you make it known as soon as possible so people will relax and decide they like you.

21. You must be speaking about Western Europeans
That's why I only travel to Eastern Europe now. First it's a hell of a lot cheaper, and no one wants to speak about Bush!

I'm on vacation after all, and the Germans and French love to get into your Politics regardless of who the president is. I just want to drinks some beer and have a good time.

Seems like boooshie is a big hit in the old Iron Curtain...Poland, Bulgaria, Roumania, Ukraine. I also get a strong feeling he'd be very welcome in Paraguay.

Ex-bishop wins Paraguay election, ousts ruling party

Mon Apr 21, 2008 9:02am IST
By Hilary Burke

ASUNCION (Reuters) - Fernando Lugo, a mild-mannered former Roman Catholic bishop, won Paraguay's presidential election on Sunday to end more than 60 years of one-party rule.

The center-leftist opposition leader captured 41 percent of votes to beat ruling party candidate Blanca Ovelar by 10 percentage points, official results from 92 percent of polling stations showed.

<snip>

A smiley, gray-bearded man who often wears sandals, Lugo inspired Paraguayans fed up with conditions in the poor South American country widely known for corruption and contraband.

<snip>

Lugo left his post as bishop three years ago, saying he felt powerless to help Paraguay's poor. He then launched his political career the following year and led a center-left coalition into the presidential election, vowing to stamp out corruption and ease inequalities.

17. Great News To Hear

Rev. Moon may have just bought himself the Amazon equivelent of quicksand. Or at least here's hoping. I knew about the election, but one never takes anything for granted when the BFEE has a vested interest...and still don't. Lets see if Lugo can take control...no bets in a country that's known nothing but authoritarian rule.

Cheers...

24. I totally agree: we can't take anything for granted. Which is why it's important to pay attention.
Of course Lugo will have many obstacles thrown up against him -- probably including attempted assassination.

People paying attention will be his most powerful protection. That's a big reason why the coup against Chavez in 2002 didn't succeed. The Venezuelan people knew they were being conned, and enough people outside the country were paying attention, too.

Cheers to you, too! :toast:

For the most part european don't like mr Bush at all.. Yes the political leadership in each country have to treat him, according to the status he have as head of state.. But you can bet many of them don't like or have a rather dislike for the man..

I for one have a so great dislike for that man, that I have to physically go out of the rom, if the TV is showing that troll.. I don't hate him.. I just have a great dislike for the man, and what he have been doing both to the friends US had in Europe. And to US itself

Mr Bush have almost ruined the reputation US have in the world.. And it will take the next president, some real hard work, just to get into the fold.. To be trusted again, as US once was it would take a decade or two with President who are treating NATO and Europe with much more curtsy and candor than this President have been doing the last 8 year. It was the current administration who told the "old europe" that they was not needed as the "New europe" was doing so much better.. Today the "New Europe" are in no position to help US in Iraq and Afghanistan. And the "old Europe" are at best cold in their action viavis United States of America.. And if I get the thing right, it would not be so much better before this ********** Administration is history, and the next Administration have proven that they can treat their european allied with the respect they deserve. The idea of that the Cold war was won by the United States alone are something for the fiction novels.. The fact is that the cold war, was won by many.. Not by one alone..
