Breaking: John McCain fails to make Oregon Voters' Guide
http://www.blueoregon.com/2008/04/oregon-presiden.html

For the first time in modern Oregon politics, a major presidential campaign has missed the Oregon Voters' Pamphlet deadline. John McCain's campaign will not be included in the Oregon Voters' Guide for our May 20 primary.

At a mere $1000 dollars, the Oregon Voters' Pamphlet is one of the most cost-effective voter contact tools available anywhere. Which is why contested and uncontested primary campaigns alike fail to participate at their peril.

The Oregon Voters' Pamphlet is a key part of every campaign in Oregon. Functionally, it is the cheapest mailer for a campaign, costing only a mere thousand dollars to go to every registered Democrat in the state. Furthermore, unlike the direct mail that campaigns send to voters that the average viewer only looks at for seven seconds, the voters' pamphlet is read by voters, especially in races where they are unfamiliar with the candidates. The voters' pamphlet is comprised of information furnished by the candidates, but because it is published by the state, the pamphlet has an air of legitimacy that other publications from campaigns do not.

The real loser here, of course, is George W. Bush and his campaign for a third term.

1. Guess he was having nap time when the deadline came
:-). Either that or his campaign is too broke to afford $1000.

2. It shows the incompetence of the Oregon GOP.
They have failed in most cases to even field a credible candidate in the statewide election races.

They're terrible.

The only chance McCain has (or had) in Oregon was to swing independent voters, a sizable voting bloc in Oregon. This is a slap in the face to them, even though it's only the primary election.

to U.$. hegemoney.

4. I'm finding more and more...
that how a campaign is run tells me more about the candidate then anything they say.

The Oregon Republican primary ballot will be practically blank.

I welcome it.

10. if he's the only repug, some of the hardcore will vote for him and
if he's the only candidate there and people don't write in mccain, he will win. I love Oregon.

11. This is the voter pamphlet, not the ballot
He's on the ballot. He just missed an opportunity to tell every Oregon voter about himself for only $1,000. Stupid, that's all.

17. No, he won't
McCain will be on the ballot, too. McCain will be missing from just the voter's pamphlet, but in Oregon, that's a big deal.

18. It wouldn't surprise me in the least
if Ron Paul takes Oregon. On the southern coast, I have seen zero McCain signs and tons of Ron Paul signs.

14. I think it was purposeful
The campaign figured the less you know about him, the more likely you are to vote for him.

We don't care enough about you to get into the Voters' Pamphlet.
