DC Madam "considering" selling Customer List to pay Atty Fees!
Uh oh. More fallout from Duke Cunningham bribe A thon? Or is it unrelated?

Uh-oh. DC Madam "considering" selling 13 years of her service's itemized phone records to the highest bidder to raise money for her legal defense fund.

Late Update: Now the Madam's lawyer tells us this: "The records identify the telephone number of the customer. Since 2000, the customers and the independent contractor escorts of the service almost exclusively used their personal cellphones, their identifying information is readily and publicly available. Jeane will cooperate with whoever acquires the information to supplement it with other information at her disposal."

A deeply unfortunate situation. Deeply.

2. There may be a large uptick in non-incumbent contested seats in '08.
Not to mention a lot of demand for sweat-stain removal at the D.C. cleaners.

7. She should put that list in a safety deposit box
with instructions that it should be made public in case of her death.

17. She posted a sample page on the internet
see the TPM link. Some TPM readers have already figured out one law firm that a call came from, by going backwards from a phone number.

8. Oh, this is GOOD
<snip>

Palfrey, whose assets were seized by the IRS back in October, has launched a website, http://www/deborahjeanepalfrey.com , to solicit contributions. But if that doesn't bring in enough, "consideration is being given to selling the entire 46 pounds of detailed and itemized phone records for the 13 year period, to raise the requisite defense funds," according to the website.

In order to show what potential buyers can look forward to, the site links to a page of the records from August, 1996:

<snip>

Update: Her lawyer responds: "The records identify the telephone number of the customer. Since 2000, the customers and the independent contractor escorts of the service almost exclusively used their personal cellphones, their identifying information is readily and publicly available. Jeane will cooperate with whoever acquires the information to supplement it with other information at her disposal."

10. The link takes you to one page of a bill - with REAL phone numbers revealed
Someone at the link already traced a number to a Pittsburgh/Washington,PA law firm! WHOA! Some of their clients will be offended that the firm hired a hooker; the rest will be offended if they weren't in on the parties. Really an incredible situation.

11. this is funny, and will be damaging, but is it legal for her to do this?
I really do not know and am curious.

I guess I see this as being related to extortion - if an important enough person(s) is on that list, they will purchase her silence, or perhaps someone will purchase it to use as leverage against an enemy.

Also, is it legal to post someone else's private number without consent?

13. I don't think this is funny at all
Most of her johns are probably married men and their families will suffer more than they will. Even though I'm sure Republicans are her "meat and potatoes" that's still not something that should be shared with the public. I don't like it when the police do it and so I can't like it from the horse's mouth either. :shrug:

14. why do you think their families would suffer more?
then again, I think prostitution should be legal and regulated, so... maybe I am the wrong person to ask.

And sorry, but it's still funny.

21. You mean "legal" as opposed to running a brothel?
She may even have some unregistered guns around. And she might employ illegal aliens without withholding taxes for them.

Criminals just don't seem to worry too much about legal niceties. :wtf:

If her list contains anyone really important, she needs to watch her back. Lawyers may be the least of her worries.

22. true. But like I said, I don't think prostitution should be illegal
and I doubt she had a website telling all the world what she was doing. I do find this amusing, and a part of me hopes that some powerful hypocrites go down because of this, but I still think it's extortion.

And I agree with you that doing this will possibly cause her more problems, and not the legal kind.
