Daniel Schorr's Proposal: Make Health Care Part of Pentagon Budget
Yesterday on NPR Daniel Schorr was decrying the lack of health care in this country, particularly for uninsured children. He described the governor's convention where the governors were talking about how much money was needed for the CHIPs program to insure children through the states.

They were not optimistic about getting the feds to fund this mandate.

Schorr proposed attaching the children's health care budget to the Pentagon's budget so that the children would be healthy enough to become soldiers to serve in the administrations various wars.

Tongue in cheek? Maybe not so much.

I kind of like the idea, myself.

3. Reductio ad Absurdum -- the military might even go for this on some level

2. Maybe with a pre-enlistment clause...

"By accepting this health care for your child, you agree to enlist the child in the military at age 17..."

4. I love Daniel Schorr
his commentaries are so thoughtful, and because he sounds like someone's kindly grandpa, the bite that often comes with his commentaries is all that more effective.

5. About the only way to make healthcare delivery in US worse and more costly
would be to funnel the funds through the Pentagon. But, it WOULD get the funds allocated.

7. Has anyone checked the percentage of the national buget allocated to the Pentagon over the last 30
years and realized that as a percentage of the GNP, it has dropped precipitously and that social services has grown.
