Protesters Plan 'Unwelcoming Party' for Cheney's Grand Junction Visit
by: Leslie Robinson
Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 09:32 AM MDT

Vice President Dick Cheney will be in Grand Junction Friday morning for a private fund-raiser for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer. Cheney can expect more than a friendly response from local Republicans - anti-war groups also plan a demonstration along his route to the fund-raiser, a Cheney "unwelcoming party."

Members from the local peace groups such as The Voice of Reason in Grand Junction, the Roaring Fork Peace Coalition and ProgressNow are mounting a protest rally for Cheney's visit from 10:30 am to 1 p.m. Friday at an intersection of G Road and 26 Road in Grand Junction.

"We'll have signs, but bring more signs if you want and noisemakers like pots and pans, drums, radios, etc." said Mackenzie Earachel from The Voice of Reason, a Grand Junction anti-war activist group. "We'd like to have as many people as possible wearing black for color coordination and to represent the mood. It'll be a peaceful event, of course." She described the protest as a Cheney "unwelcoming party."

Peace protesters can call 970-245-3720 for more info or e-mail [email protected].
