Associated Press - April 3, 2008 8:53 PM ET

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Bush administration is campaigning against legislation that would allow reporters to protect the identities of confidential sources who provide sensitive, sometimes embarrassing information about the government.

Attorney General Michael Mukasey (myoo-KAY'-zee) and other administration officials say the "Free Flow of Information Act" could harm national security and would encourage more leaks of classified information. The officials have written letters to senators stating their objections.

The legislation's chief sponsor, Republican Senator Arlen Specter, says his staff is considering the administrations concerns.
