And that was during the "Great Inflation of the 1970s!" We are in BIG trouble folks.

1978 minimum wage $2.65
1978 Gas 63 cents a gallon

24%

2008 minimum wage $5.85
2008 Gas 3.21 (average this week)

55%

1. It's particularly bad if driving is part of your job, like mine...
I deliver pizzas for a local pizza shop.

Let me just say I'm glad I seem to run into generous tippers.

2. Yeah, we noticed.
This is probably what it's going to take to put the stake through the heartless heart of supply side economics, though.

People are generally dumb creatures who don't notice they're being screwed without getting kissed first until they notice they're sick with a loathsome disease.

Bad news is good news in the long run. If this is what it takes to keep the GOP and their loony economic dogma out of power, so be it.

3. Gas jumped 10 cents here in my neighborhood over night.
I live in north Austin.

Went from 3.15 to 3.25.

5. Up 4 cents here overnight
Now it's $3.56 for regular. Good news is diesel stayed the same, if you can call $4.26 good!

What amazes me is that congress had the CEO's of the biggest oil companies in to "discuss" things, and now price are on the rise again. Guess the big oil companies are going to get every last penny out of us before Bush leaves office!

4. How about 1963
Gas $.25/gallon

Minimum wage $1.25

So at that ratio, a true minimum wage would be around $15.

So isn't the trickle down theory just great?

6. Has it ever been possible for a person to live, much less drive, on minimum wage?
Also, since cars now get much better fuel mileage than they did 30 years ago, the change isn't all that dramatic.

7. Why should people making minimum wage be driving cars in the first place?
Why don't they just take advantage of our extensive, efficient public transportation system that goes nearly everywhere in the country, including the suburbs where most of the jobs have gone, and the other suburbs all the way across town where those people can actually afford to live? Quit whining already! You'd think corporate America owed you a living or something.

Do I even need to add,

:sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

9. Too many Americans are waking up and unhappy with how hard...
it is to get by nowadays and the government has moved to its next phase and it is now time to bankrupt us all. Once they throw us all into poverty, all we will focus on is trying to have a roof over our heads and finding ways to feed our families. Once they have that control, we are in deep shit because their agenda will pick up even more speed.

I just cant wait until it happens...whatever it ends up being, there is a breaking point but I just don't know where it is for most Americans. Until enough people are hit and past that point, we wont band together as a people to take back our country. Just think, a very small part of the worlds population is living it up as the rest of the world struggles their asses of just to survive...its sickening, we have power in numbers yet we live in fear of our governments and haven't done a thing.

Hopefully people are at least to the point where they are opening their minds and educating themselves on the agenda of the elite. Knowledge is power.

11. And there is not one single solitary thing "we" can do about it.
How's that for a bright look at the future?
