I am teaching British Lit for the first time in many years next year, so I decided to get a head start on the novel we have as summer reading, Silas Marner since I need to prepare a study packet for the kids do so for the first day next fall. I read the book in high school, but not since.

Any way, to make a long story short, I just got done reading the line that is not my signature line and knew that there would be people here that would find the reference in a Victorian novel to a current republican shrew quite hilarious.

I haven't read Silas Marner since high school either, but I still remember the furze bushes!

For much of the trilogy, Mrs. Coulter is associated with the Church, where she heads up the General Oblation Board, the organization that kidnaps children in order to perform dastardly experiments on them.
