30. "Cotton picking" is a Southern dialect marker. It is between "goldurned" and "hogswalloped".

"Now hold on one cotton picking minute!" is not a racist comment. Only when one would use it alongside "black leaders" could it even remotely be construed as "racially tinged."

Several idiomatic terms come from fiber: "fair to middling" for example is a grade of cotton when it is ginned. "Tow headed" from the color of unbleached linen. In the South, a burlap bag is still called a "tow sack."

Actually, probably about as many white and Hispanic people have picked cotton before WW II as have black! It is unpleasant: done in September usually in the SE and the fiber has to be pulled out of the bolls which are dry and hard and pointed at the openings, leading to dust, cuts, and bloody fingers, a stooped back and low wages when done by hand.

Cotton sacks and weights are at a premium price for collectors these days. My mother still has her child-sized sack from the early and mid 40s! It was made from flour sacks.
